Outrage in the Lakers over a “complete lack of respect” toward Luka Doncic

A big wave of criticism and backlash has erupted from the LA Lakers fans after a TV show seemed to question if Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic used a drug named Ozempic for weight loss.

This caused a massive debate online, asking about how the media acts with complete freedom and no remorse and how NBA players are treated by them.

Doncic wows with magic setting the streets on fire!

A controversial question that was not liked at all

During an interview on the Today Show, a reporter straight up asked Doncic if he took Ozempic to lose weight during the break. Doncic just smiled and did not answer, but the clip spread fast on social media regardless, starting a debate that is still ongoing as we speak.

Fans and NBA watchers, especially those who watch the Lakers, were quick to say the question was wrong and lacked respect. They called it “invasive,” “disrespectful,” and “completely uncalled for.”

“Would they ask LeBron James or Kobe Bryant that?” one Lakers fan posted on X. “No way,” he said.

Unfairness and double standards hard to understand

Supported of the Purple and Gold did not hold back in claiming there is a clear and striking unfairness. They talk about how the media and NBA “analysts” usually protect LeBron James and the late Kobe Bryant. Many say Doncic, already a top player, should get, at least, the same respect from the media.

If this was Kobe, the reporter would’ve been fired by now. Luka is a generational talent, not a tabloid headline

Dehumanizing an NBA player

This has brought back the hot take on how the media deals with sports stars, especially about health or looks. Critics say guessing about a player’s use of a medicine, mostly one linked to body image, is over the line.

It’s bad journalism. There’s a thin line between being curious and being too much, and this went too far

Spòrt media analyst on X

Luka Doncic has not talked about this yet, and the Mavericks, on the other hand, have not said anything official either. However, the silence has made even more people support him, with fans and past players backing him up.

He owes no one an answer,” someone said on ESPN. “Just let the man play.”

This has become a fair moment for bigger talks about athletes and their privacy, claiming how the media should act, and how fair the coverage is. While Doncic keeps shining in games thanks to the way he plays, the noise outside has started a call for a better way to treat players, especially those like Luka, who are shaping the NBA’s future.

We hope you liked this article. If you desire to learn more about Luka Doncic and his NBA career or anything related to the L.A. Lakers and other NBA team, MARCA.com is still your trusted media outlet. You can find the lastest news in our webpage. Stay tuned in order to not miss out on anything.
