Além do West Ham, John também atraiu interesses do Galatasaray, da Turquia, e do Everton, da Inglaterra. O Manchester United também monitorou o goleiro brasileiros nos últimos meses. No entanto, nenhum dos três clubes formalizaram uma proposta pelo jogador de 29 anos, que chegou ao Botafogo no ano passado.
Titular e eleito o melhor goleiro das campanhas histórias e vitoriosas do Campeonato Brasileiro e da Libertadores, John renovou recentemente o seu contrato com o Botafogo. Ele recebeu uma valorização salarial e teve o vínculo anterior, que ia até o final de 2027, renovado por mais uma temporada.
O goleiro chegou ao clube no início do ano passado, adquirido do Santos por 1,5 milhão de dólares (cerca de R$ 7 milhões na cotação da época), após se destacar em um empréstimo ao Real Valladolid (Espanha).
