Neben Wirtz kam Stürmer Hugo Ekitiké (23) für 95 Mio. Euro von Eintracht Frankfurt, Linksverteidiger Milos Kerkez (21) für 47 Mio. von Bournemouth und Rechtsverteidiger Jeremie Frimpong (24) für 40 Mio. aus Leverkusen.
„Die Transfer-Offensive ist ein Statement“, sagt der Ex-Liverpooler Dietmar Hamann (51/191 Einsätze zwischen 1999 und 2006) zu SPORT BILD: „Die Klubführung sieht eine Möglichkeit, in England eine Dominanz zu schaffen. Gerade, weil andere Topklubs Probleme haben oder noch nicht beweisen konnten, dass sie Titel gewinnen können.“ Gemeint sind vor allem Erzrivale Manchester United, aber auch Man City oder Arsenal.

So wird der Klub auch in der Champions League sofort zum Favoriten. Bereits im Vorjahr hielten viele das Achtelfinal-Duell mit dem späteren Sieger Paris für das vorgezogene Finale. Eine Perspektive, die auch für Königstransfer Wirtz eine Rolle spielt. „Florian Wirtz geht zu einem absoluten Weltverein“, sagt Hamann über den Rechtsfuß, an dem auch die Bayern dran waren: „Ich will nicht urteilen, wie gut es in München gepasst hätte. Aber: Er will die Champions League gewinnen, und da hat er in Liverpool die größere Chance als bei den Bayern.“
Der Deutsche wird wohl als Spielmacher gesetzt sein. Auch Kerkez und Ekitiké (siehe Schema) haben auf ihren Positionen die Nase vorn vor den bisherigen Lösungen Darwin Núñez (26) im Sturm und Routinier Andy Robertson (31) links hinten. Frimpong muss mit Eigengewächs Conor Bradley (22) um einen Platz kämpfen, ist aber auch als Flügel-Ersatz eingeplant, wenn der ägyptische Topscorer Mo Salah (33) ab Dezember beim Afrika-Cup ist.
