Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has faced widespread criticism following the release of a training camp video in which he struggled during a routine passing drill.
The clip, which has gained significant traction on social media, shows Williams attempting to throw four passes at three different stationary targets, missing nearly all of them.

Pressure mounts in Williams’ second season
The incident has raised concerns among fans and analysts ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Williams is preparing for his second year with the Bears after being selected as the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
While he displayed individual promise during his rookie campaign – recording 3,541 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 489 rushing yards – Chicago endured a disappointing season overall. The team finished with a 5-12 record and a 10-game losing streak that led to the dismissal of head coach Matt Eberflus.
Williams completed 62.5 percent of his passes across 17 games but also led the league in sacks taken, going down 68 times – 16 more than any other quarterback. The lack of pass protection was a critical issue for the Bears‘ offense.
In response, the organization focused heavily on rebuilding the offensive line during the offseason. Chicago acquired guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson via trade and reached an agreement with center Drew Dalman. These additions are intended to reduce pressure on Williams and improve overall offensive efficiency.
Are Chicago set for another poor year?
Despite the team’s efforts to improve its infrastructure, the training camp incident has renewed scrutiny of Williams’ readiness to lead the franchise.
The expectation for a first overall pick is to show leadership and steady progression, and while off-season practice errors are common, public performance lapses at this stage can influence perception and confidence.
As the 2025 season approaches, Williams will be under close observation from both the coaching staff and the public. His ability to respond to criticism, apply coaching corrections, and demonstrate growth in pre-season games will likely determine his trajectory moving forward.
