Luka Doncic firmou um novo acordo com o Los Angels Lakers e fechou uma extensão contratual de três anos e US$ 165 milhões. Sendo assim, o esloveno garante seu futuro na franquia e ainda possui uma opção de jogador em 2028, quando poderá repensar sua carreira e escolher seu destino.
A ‘era Doncic’ está apenas começando em LA. Agora com estabilidade contratual, ele se consolida aos poucos como o “rosto” da franquia, em “passagem de bastão” que está sendo feita com LeBron James. Um dos melhores jogadores da geração, o armador chegou ao time em fevereiro após ser trocado por Anthony Davis pelo Dallas Mavericks.
Em 2028, o europeu terá a opção de fechar um contrato máximo de cinco anos por até US$ 417 milhões, o que equivale a 35% do teto salarial. Fato é que seu futuro na franquia está assegurado e o foco total passa a ser chegar ao topo da NBA, o que não acontece com o Lakers desde 2019/20.
Lakers faz planos ousados para o futuro
Um dos objetivos da diretoria de LA é ter grande flexibilidade salarial em 2027, segundo informações do jornalista Dave McMenamin, da ESPN norte-americana. Para isso, a maioria dos contratos atuais do elenco irão expirar daqui dois anos e o Lakers terá espaço para buscar uma grande estrela.
Nikola Jokic e Giannis Antetokounmpo, por exemplo, podem não executar as opções de seus vínculos e ficar livres no mercado da NBA em 2027. A ideia de adquirir uma nova estrela pode ganhar força, ou até mesmo um planejamento para montar um elenco mais profundo ao redor de Doncic, que passa a ser o “centro” de protagonismo para o futuro.

O camisa 23 não compareceu à coletiva do anúncio de renovação, mas ligou para o companheiro de equipe para parabenizá-lo, segundo o jornalista Marc Stein. Essa atitude dispensa qualquer boato de que há algum tipo de desavença no vestiário da equipe.
Doncic considera LeBron um grande ídolo e faz esforços para mantê-lo no plantel para a próxima temporada. Devido a algumas divergências de objetivos entre ‘The King’ e a diretoria, foi especulado que o experiente atleta poderia trocar de franquia, mas isso não irá acontecer.
Lakers se movimenta para dar um time competitivo aos dois craques. Depois do insucesso nos playoffs de 2024/25, o time agora conta com o pivô Deandre Ayton e o ala-armador Marcus Smart.
