Wie kann das denn passieren?
Newcastle United hat in der Vorbereitung eine Asien-Tour absolviert. Zum Abschluss gab es im südkoreanischen Seoul ein Testspiel gegen Tottenham Hotspur (1:1). Spätestens bei der Rückreise wurde das Ergebnis aber schnell zur Nebensache – denn: Die Magpies haben einen ihrer Spieler am Flughafen vergessen.
[–>Beim Abflug aus Seoul in Richtung England fehlte ein Spieler an Bord – Verteidiger Matt Targett blieb am Flughafen zurück. Erst in der Luft bemerkte der Rest des Teams das Fehlen des Mitspielers.
Grund für die kuriose Panne war laut internen Quellen des Klubs ein Kommunikationsfehler innerhalb des Teams und des Betreuerstabs.
Kurze Zeit später gab Newcastle bekannt, dass Targett wohlauf ist und alleine den Weg zurück nach Newcastle antreten wird. Um Fans und Umfeld zu beruhigen, stellte der Champions-League-Teilnehmer direkt klar, dass das Fehlen des Spielers keinen ernsten Hintergrund hat.
In den sozialen Medien nehmen die meisten Fans die Szene mit Humor – viele fragen sich vor allem, wie einem Top-Klub so ein haarsträubender Fehler passieren kann.

Neben dem Flughafen-Fauxpas läuft es auch sportlich nicht besonders gut für Targett. Er kam in der letzten Saison nur 7-mal in Pflichtspielen zum Einsatz und musste sogar zwischenzeitlich für die zweite Mannschaft auflaufen.
Bereits im Winter gab es immer wieder Gerüchte um einen Abgang von Targett, auch in diesem Transferfenster gibt es Interesse am Linksverteidiger. Unter anderem wird Aufsteiger Leeds United immer wieder mit Targett in Verbindung gebracht.
Neben Targett macht vor allem ein Newcastle-Spieler Schlagzeilen: Stürmer Alexander Isak (25). Der Schwede will den Klub verlassen, Liverpool gilt trotz der Ekitiké-Verpflichtung als Abnehmer. Als Ersatz haben die Magpies Leipzigs Benjamin Šeško (22) im Auge.
