João Fonseca já sabe quem vai enfrentar em sua estreia no Masters 1000 de Cincinnati. O brasileiro de 18 anos joga contra o chinês Yunchaokete Bu, nº 76 da ATP. A partida deve acontecer nesta quinta-feira (7), ainda sem horário e quadras definidas.
Fonseca vem de cair na estreia do Masters 1000 de Toronto, diante do australiano Tristan Schoolkate por 2 sets a 0, parciais de 7/6 e 6/4. Vale lembrar que a melhor campanha de João em torneios Masters foi na atual temporada, em Miami, onde ele caiu na terceira rodada para o também australiano Alex De Minaur.
Brasileiro vem dosando seu calendário em 2025
O fato é que ao entrar no top 50 do ranking mundial, o jovem vem dosando seu calendário. Para se ter uma ideia, ele fez uma longa parada desde que foi eliminado na terceira rodada de Wimbledon. Ele só voltou a jogar, na última semana, no Canadá.
“Estão achando que ele (João) vai correr uma corrida de 100 metros, e na verdade o tênis é uma maratona”, analisa Fernando Meligeni no Podcast New Balls Please, que continua: “Primeiro que ele não está preparado pra ‘aguentar o tranco’ de estar todas as semanas jogando. Pra algumas pessoas, ele está querendo ser top antes de ser (com as escolhas do calendário); é um bom argumento. Está jogando só torneios grandes, é um argumento a ser debatido, muitos Masters 1000 e poucos ATP 250. É uma escolha do time, estratégia.”, finaliza o ex-jogador.
Outra análise que vai na linha da paciência com Fonseca é a de Fernando Nardini, companheiro de podcast de Meligeni, em entrevista ao boppismo de Lucca Boop. Nardini vê o objetivo de ser nº 1 do mundo, ainda longe.
“Número 1 eu acho um sonho muito distante. É uma meta válida, ambiciosa, mas hoje parece difícil imaginar. Faço votos para que consiga, mas há um longo caminho a percorrer”, disse o também narrador da ESPN.
