Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was crushed on a sack in the first quarter of Thursday’s preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens and suffered a dislocated pinky finger on his right hand. The third-year pro has been ruled out for the rest of the game.
The Ravens blitzed, and the Colts didn’t adjust, which allowed Ravens linebacker David Ojabo to get a free rush on Richardson, who never saw him coming. After Ojabo took Richardson to the ground, the QB injured his pinky finger. Richardson was attended to by trainers on the sideline and ultimately had the finger taped.

Indianapolis coach Shane Steichen told Colts.com reporter Larra Overton that he doesn’t yet know the extent of the injury.
“It was just a dislocation,” Steichen said. “Popped out, popped back in. Don’t know how long he’ll be out.”
While Richardson exited the game, he was later seen throwing on the sideline and has remained on the sidelines with his team throughout the game

Steichen said earlier this week that the plan for Thursday’s game was for Richardson to play the first quarter and half of the second before pivoting to Daniel Jones, whom Richardson is competing with for the QB1 spot. That plan was short-lived. Richardson finished his brief night 2-of-3 passing for 21 yards.
He was replaced by Jones, who completed 10-of-21 passes for 144 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
Richardson has struggled to stay healthy throughout his first two NFL seasons. He’s missed 17 games due to injury since being drafted fourth overall by the Colts in 2023.
