Zumindest gibt es wohl keinen Handballer, der nicht auch gerne München als Standort hätte. Bei einem Medientermin von TV-Partner Dyn im Münchener Presseclub unterstrichen das jetzt auch Berlins Sport-Vorstand Stefan Kretzschmar und Bennet Wiegert, Trainer des Champions-League-Siegers SC Magdeburg.

Auf die Frage, ob ein Projekt wie der FC Bayern Handball – analog zum FC Bayern Basketball in der Easycredit BBL – die beiden Handball-Superstars von ihren aktuellen Vereinen weglocken könnte, offenbarte Kretzschmar seine FCB-Träume: „Das ist ein Riesen-Flaggschiff, der FC Bayern, ein unfassbar geführter Klub, der Möglichkeiten besäße, sowas anschieben zu können. Das ist eine sehr charmante und interessante Vision und Vorstellung.“
Natürlich weiß er auch, dass das momentan in den Bayern-Überlegungen (noch) keine Rolle spielt: „Man weiß, dass Uli Hoeneß damals ein extremer Basketball-Fan war, in den USA war und sich NBA-Spiele angeschaut hat. Da gehört eine Leidenschaft dazu, das in München ebenfalls entwickeln zu wollen.“

Es sei ja nicht so, „dass wir es noch nie probiert oder noch nie angefragt oder uns noch nie damit beschäftigt hätten, dass der FC Bayern, nachdem er sich für den Basketball entschieden hat, sich eventuell auch für Handball interessieren könnte“, sagte der 52-Jährige.
Die Hoffnung auf den Handball-Standort München besteht trotzdem, auch bei Wiegert: „Ich hab das gesagt, dass ein Standort, eine Metropoloe wie München der Liga, dem ganzen Handball, guttun würde. Ich habe die Diskussion damals um Uli Hoeneß mitbekommen, er hat sich klar committed, dass man sich auf Basketball festlegt.“

Trotzdem sagt auch Wiegert: „Ob ich es mir wünschen würde? Ob es zur Attraktivität der Liga beitragen könnte? Hundertprozentig. Davon bin ich überzeugt.“ Sein SCM ist zwar Champions-League-Sieger, hat aber weder Meistertitel noch Pokal geholt und ist demzufolge beim Supercup zwischen Berlin und Kiel nicht vertreten: „Der Supercup ist eine echte Trophäe, und als ich gestern am SAP Garden, dieser Superhalle vorbeigefahren bin, dachte ich: Scheiße, da hätte ich gerne gespielt.“
Um München als Handball-Standort weiter zu positionieren, findet der Supercup der Männer und Frauen am 23. August im SAP Garden statt. Bei den Männern trifft Meister Füchse Berlin auf den deutschen Pokalsieger THW Kiel. Bei den Frauen spielt der Bundesliga-Dritte HSG Blomberg-Lippe gegen den European-League-Gewinner Thüringer HC. Der deutsche Meister und Pokalsieger HB Ludwigsburg hatte vor wenigen Wochen Insolvenz angemeldet und wurde durch den THC ersetzt.
