The Minnesota Vikings have recently stirred controversy among their fanbase after introducing Blaize Shiek as the team’s newest male cheerleader, upsetting NFL supporters who feel the team is going ‘woke’.
Blaize’s appointment to the Vikings Cheerleaders roster marks a notable shift for the organization, but it has also prompted backlash from some disgruntled punters as some fans are considering canceling their season tickets in response.

While male cheerleaders have long existed in professional and collegiate football, Blaize‘s role is distinctive in that they will perform the same dance routines as their female counterparts as part of the Vikings‘ main dance squad.
This full integration into a dance-focused cheerleading unit has become a growing trend in the NFL, with teams like the Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints also embracing male dancers.
Despite the progress toward inclusivity, something the Minnesota franchise is known for, the decision has met resistance among a vocal segment of Vikings fans who hit out via social media.
One fan commented, “I don’t think the problem is male cheerleaders. Those have existed forever. Nobody wants a man PRETENDING he’s a female cheerleader.”
A second said, “He’s a man PRETENDING to be a female cheerleader.”
And a third wrote, “Canceling my ticket!!! don’t be this bs to NFL.”
There is no indication at this stage that Blaize has ambiguity surrounding their gender or how they choose to identify themself.
Blaize‘s role will not be limited to performing on game days but will extend to appearances at promotional events and community outreach programs as the move aligns with a broader NFL trend toward evolving cheerleading squads to reflect changing cultural attitudes.
Although some fans have threatened to revoke their season tickets, the practicality of such cancellations remains uncertain as NFL teams generally do not offer refunds for personal reasons.
J.K Rowling calls for boycott of British store as Harry Potter author weighs in on ‘transgender’ row
In a separate controversy reflecting ongoing cultural conflicts, author J.K. Rowling has urged a boycott of the British retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S) after an allegedly transgender employee reportedly offered to assist a teenage girl.
The incident sparked complaints from the girl’s mother, despite the mother being present with her 14-year-old daughter at the time and described the employee as respectful towards the pair.
The mother described the employee as a “biological male” and expressed discomfort, stating it was “completely inappropriate” for the trans employee to approach her daughter in an incident that occurred in March.
The woman claimed her daughter “recoiled” and felt “freaked out,” leading them to leave the store. M&S responded by apologizing and assuring that a female staff member would assist the girl in the future.
However, there is no indication that the employee is transgender. That appears to be presumed based on the estimated height from the mother of 6ft2in. Importantly, the trans employee did not conduct bra fittings.
Nor was there any suggestion they intended to enter the fitting room with the girl. It appears the incident happened in the very public main shopping floor. Regardless, Rowling used the incident to promote a boycott on social media.
“It’s time for women to vote with their wallets,” Rowling posted to X.com, formerly Twitter. “If stores like M&S continue to flout the Supreme Court ruling on women-only spaces, prioritising the wishes of men who want to undress near, or help fit bras on teenage girls, a boycott seems appropriate.”
