Manchester Citys Mittelfeldstar Bernardo Silva schießt gegen eine Tradition der Premier League. Der Grund dafür: Er verliert einfach nicht gerne.
Aber worum geht es? In England ist es üblich, dass der Meister und der Pokal-Sieger mit einem Spalier geehrt werden. Diese Tradition steht schon länger in der Kritik. Einer der Gegner: Man-City-Star Silva.

Ich habe zwölf Jahre bei Benfica gespielt und dort hat man uns eingetrichtert, wenn man verliert, dann nicht noch glücklich zu sein. Daher ist es meine Meinung, dass das Spalier Heuchelei ist.“
Klar Kante von Silva. Und weiter: „Das ist keine Tradition, die wir auch in Portugal haben. Wenn sie das hier machen wollen, können sie das tun. Aber es ist nicht meine Art, mich hinzustellen und Liverpool zu applaudieren. Wenn ich einen Titel gewinne, muss mir auch niemand applaudieren.“
Schon 2020 weigerte sich Silva, Liverpool nach der Meisterschaft unter Trainer-Star Jürgen Klopp im Spalier zu applaudieren. Arsenal tat das für die „Reds“ am Ende der abgelaufenen Spielzeit – und kassierte dafür viel Kritik von den eigenen Fans. Diese kann auch Silva vertreten.

Liverpool hatte die Dominanz der „Cityzens“ in der vergangenen Saison durchbrochen und den Meistertitel geholt. City war früh aus dem Titelrennen ausgeschieden, spielte eine schlechte Saison. Eine Schande, wie Silva jetzt gestand. „Die Spieler, der Trainer, einfach alle fühlen sich schuldig, dass sie in der letzten Saison nicht besser waren“, erklärte er.
Und weiter: „Ein Team mit unserer Erfahrung, unserer Qualität und trotz der Verletzungen, die wir hatten, darf nicht so leicht untergehen. Wir hätten mehr tun müssen, um diese Situation zu meistern. Was den Kampf um den Titel angeht, haben wir es nicht einmal versucht.“
