On June 20, the Los Angeles Dodgers pledged to commit $1 million“toward direct financial assistance for families of immigrants impacted by recent events in the region.” However, they never specified when those funds would be delivered.

Now, nearly eight weeks after the protests against immigration raids subsided, a nonprofit organization has stepped forward to provide further details on the matter.

According to the California Community Foundation (CCF), a philanthropic organization in Los Angeles, the $1 million will be distributed to 1,000 households, with each receiving that amount by the end of the month.

The Dodgers’ generous gift of $1 million to the CCF LA Neighbors Fund will provide relief to 1,000 Los Angeles households struggling to meet their basic needs due to the immigration raids…

Each will receive $1,000 in direct cash relief, delivered before the end of August 2025, as cash cards through trusted community partners in partnership with the City of Los Angeles.

These statements were shared with outlets following the story, though CCF also noted they have not received any direct response from the Dodgers on this specific issue.

ICE arrests in Los Angeles

Since June 6, ICE has made more than 4,200 arrests in the Los Angeles area and surrounding regions, according to Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin.

During those difficult moments for the Latino community, the Dodgers faced widespread criticism. Despite their large Latino fan base, the team had not initially spoken out or offered support as distressing images from the raids spread throughout the city.

Before announcing their monetary commitment, the Dodgers did take one step: they prohibited ICE agents from entering Dodger Stadium parking lots. Still, at that point, the organization had not issued any formal statement addressing the actions being carried out against Latinos.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her gratitude to the Dodgers “for leading with this action to support the immigrant community of Los Angeles.

Yet, that same day, protesters returned to the stadium carrying signs critical of the team’s approach.

Dodgers want you to shut up for $1 million.

Others argued the amount was insufficient to address the needs of the affected community.

Several donors, including the Dodgers, have now joined the cause, raising $2.6 million for the CCF LA Neighbors Fund,

which will provide additional resources to the City of LA’s assistance program as well as nonprofit organizations providing direct aid to people across the County who are in need as a result of the ongoing raids.

The process of delivering aid to Los Angeles’ Latino community is slowly moving forward.
