After having a great 2024 season – with a 9-4 record, 7-2 in the Big 12 -, the Buffs lost their two top superstars in Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, and superstar quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Colorado added some power at the quarterback level with veteran Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and frehsman sensation Julian Lewis, as well as keeping one of the best left tackles in the nation with Jordan Seaton; and an explosive running back duo in Dallan Hayden and Micah Welch.

In Boulder, Colorado, the countdown to the season opener is on. Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is at the center of it all, sending a message to his defense that mistakes are no longer acceptable. At practice, he let his players know he was not happy with their coverage.

Sanders built his legacy as one of the greatest shutdown corners in football history. That career makes him even tougher on his players today. He knows that without stars like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders leading the offense, Colorado must lean on defense to compete.
The Buffaloes are not ranked among the top 25 programs in the country, and analysts point to the defense as a key weakness. After missing practice time while battling cancer, Sanders is back and pushing harder than ever. The Buffaloes‘ path to silencing critics begins with fixing their defense, and “Coach Prime” is determined to make that happen.
An exciting start for the Colorado Buffaloes’ season
Tickets for the August 29 game against Georgia Tech have sold out. This battle marks the second sell-out already of 2025 (Family weekend vs. Wyoming on Sept. 20) and the 11th in three years under head football coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders.
After battling the Yellow Jackets, Colorado will welcome Delaware on Sept. 6 for the Blue Hens’ second-ever FBS game. Other opponents this year include Big 12 rivals BYU on Sept. 27, an opportunity for the Buffaloes to exact revenge after last year’s Alamo Bowl.
The season wraps up with a pair of games against Arizona schools, including a Homecoming match-up against the Arizona Wildcats on Nov. 1 and a senior day send off against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Nov. 22.
