Patrick Mahomes has revealed his initial skepticism when Travis Kelce first told him about his relationship with the pop superstar, Taylor Swift, as the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback admitted he didn’t fully believe it.
The 29-year-old three-time Super Bowl champion had to wait until he saw the couple together in person before being convinced it wasn’t some kind of set-up from his tight end.
The pair, teammates since 2017 have forged one of the most productive partnerships in NFL history, but heir bond extends beyond the gridiron and allowed the 35-year-old veteran to confide in his QB on a personal matter.
The news of the high-profile romance came just days before Swift’s debut at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023 as she watched the team take on, and beat, the Chicago Bears.
“He told me during the week,” Mahomes recalled on ESPN’s The Kingdom. “It was one of those where I gotta see it until I believe it.”
Once Swift appeared, Patrick acknowledged the connection was genuine and so to him, it will be little surprise that the pair are preparing to celebrate two years together as the summer comes to a close.
“You definitely felt the buzz,” Mahomes added of Swift‘s arrival at the Arrowhead. “And you could see people in the stadium gravitating towards where she was up there.
“At the same time, we had business to handle.”
Since then, Swift has become a familiar face at Chiefs games, often alongside Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, and the pair have cultivated a close friendship, frequently appearing together at games, dinners, and high-profile outings in New York.
Patrick Mahomes’ mom reacts to seeing his late grandma on TV
Randi Martin, mother of Patrick Mahomes, experienced an emotional moment while watching ESPN+’s six-episode docuseries The Kingdom, which chronicles the Kansas City Chiefs‘ season following their Super Bowl 59 defeat.
In a teaser trailer, Mahomes’ late grandmother, Debbie Bates, appeared in two clips: one showing a hug with Patrick and another in a home video snippet, appearing on the screen over two years after her death.
Seeing her mother on screen after her passing in April 2023, aged 72, prompted a deeply heartfelt response from Randi as she headed to Facebook to post her response.
“My momma made a cameo on Kingdom tonight!!! Miss her so much!!! I know she’s smiling (well…YELLING LOUD) from Heaven!!,” Randi wrote on Mark Zuckerberg’s social media platform.
The appearance was particularly poignant, as it coincided with the loss of Mahomes’ grandfather, Randy, who passed away just days after the Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss in February.
Randi’s reaction underscores the importance of family in Mahomes’ life and highlights the personal side behind the public sports figure that beyond the Super Bowl passes, there is a human there bonding with everyone around him.
