O Flamengo tem pelo menos quatro jogadores pré-convocados para defender a seleção brasileira nas duas últimas rodadas das Eliminatórias, contra Chile e Bolívia, nos dias 4 e 9 de setembro, respectivamente. Os zagueiros Léo Ortiz e Léo Pereira, além do lateral-esquerdo Alex Sandro e do atacante Samuel Lino estão em uma lista de 50 nomes que será reduzida.
A convocação final do técnico Carlo Ancelotti será feita no próximo dia 1º de setembro (segunda-feira)), na sede da CBF, no Rio de Janeiro, e são esperados que parte dos atletas do rubro-negro sigam na lista final. Nas redes sociais muitos torcedores comemoraram os nomes chamados, mas outros enxergam um plano para prejudicar o time carioca.
Vale lembrar que em setembro do ano passado, o centroavante Pedro sofreu uma grave lesão no joelho esquerdo (ruptura do ligamento cruzado anterior) e teve que desfalcar o Flamengo por pelo menos seis meses, o que deixou muitos torcedores do time chateados e apontando a seleção como culpada já que a lesão ocorreu em um treinamento do Brasil em Curitiba.
Outro torcedor rubro-negro também criticou o técnico Carlo Ancelotti por chamar os dois zagueiros titulares Léo Pereira e Léo Ortiz, pois ambos têm atuado com muita frequência nesta temporada, já que Danilo tem sofrido com problemas físicos e Filipe Luís não tem confiança ainda nas opções mais jovens para os jogos decisivos nesta fase da temporada.

O sucesso do sistema defensivo, mas principalmente dos zagueiros do Flamengo, com muitos gols de cabeça e ótimos passes para iniciar as jogadas tem chamado a atenção de outros clubes no mercado e nos últimos dias o Napoli demonstrou interesse na contratação do zagueiro Léo Ortiz. O time italiano terá observadores no duelo da Libertadores contra o Internacional.
No time rubro-negro, no entanto, uma saída é considerada extremamente improvável neste momento da temporada. A chance de venda de Ortiz só ocorreria por uma proposta considerada irrecusável.
