Heading into the 2025 college football season, expectations simply can’t be higher for Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns. Manning is considered a Heisman Trophy favorite, while the Longhorns are ranked as the top team in the nation by many analysts. All that sets up for what could be an explosive season, for better or worse.
2025 will be Manning’s first season as a starting quarterback. Longhorns fans wanted him to take the helm last year, but Quinn Ewers held on to the starting job until the very end. Now, the runway is clear; not only for this college football season, but also for the 2026 NFL Draft. Manning is already being mentioned as the possible No. 1 overall pick in that draft. Will he actually declare, though? His grandfather, Archie Manning, doesn’t believe so.
Arch Manning and Longhorns look scary in offense
Arch Manning doesn’t know where Archie Manning got his info from
Archie came out with a bit of a bombshell recently, claiming that his grandson would be staying at Texas following this season. That had Longhorns fans ecstatic. But on Tuesday, the quarterback came out to refute his grandfather’s statement, leaving the door wide open to a departure ahead of next year’s draft.
“Yeah, I don’t know where he got that from. He texted me and apologized about that. But I’m really just taking it day-by-day right now.“
It’s a bit odd that Archie would make such a definitive statement. It sounds like Arch either wasn’t on board with the information leaking or hasn’t come close to making a decision yet.
The Texas player’s comments should have NFL franchises’ ears perking up. There’s a very real possibility that Manning is the No. 1 overall pick next April.
