Following the 2025 NFL Draft, it was clear that the Cleveland Browns were going to have an epic, and probably chaotic, quarterback competition. With Deshaun Watson sidelined, the front office signed two veterans and two rookies to try to find an answer at the position.
Despite many wanting Shedeur Sanders to win the job outright, he was always behind the eight ball. Kenny Pickett looked like the favorite early in camp, but a hamstring injury halted his momentum. Dillon Gabriel simply isn’t ready. That left head coach Kevin Stefanski with only one real option: to name Joe Flacco the starting quarterback. He did just that on Monday, and the team can now prepare with their guy under center.

Joe Flacco says his arm feels as good as ever heading into 2025
While Flacco may not be the flashy pick, he did get Browns fans excited with a comment on Tuesday. At 40 years old, Flacco said he feels as good as he ever has. That should be welcome news for Browns fans as the regular season nears.
It may have helped that the Browns decided to keep him on ice for a good portion of the summer. Flacco continually split reps with many other quarterbacks, and sat out the first two preseason games.
Back in 2023, Flacco found a lot of success under Stefanski in his first stint with the Browns. Many fans believed he should have been brought back as the starter in 2024, instead of Watson. Now, Flacco is getting the chance he deserves.
