The Luka Doncic trade to the Lakers took everyone by storm, and Mavericks fans immediately called for General Manager Nico Harrison’s dismissal after he traded the five-time All-Star guard.
Now, one of the greatest legends in Dallas Mavericks history, Dirk Nowitzki, has backed Harrison’s decision, calling it “a tough decision I think the club had to make.”

Nowitzki backs the Doncic trade
Nowitzki, who led the Mavericks to their only NBA championship in 2011, spoke with Steve Nash about Doncic’s trade on RCD Mallorca’s YouTube channel.
“I was surprised how big those news were. And yeah, it was a tough, tough decision I think the club had to make. And you know, it just-it happened. I think in the NBA, there’s always stuff that surprises everybody. That’s what kind of keeps it, I guess, interesting also,” Nowitzki said.

Even though Luka left Dallas, the relationship between the two European stars will remain on good terms, and Nowitzki still wishes Doncic the best.
“Of course, I want to support Luka, but I’m also a Maverick for life, you know? So this was a tough decision for me. But I want to keep obviously supporting both,” Nowitzki added.
“I want to wish Luka the best in L.A., and I think he’s going to have a great career there. And of course, the Mavs moved on and now got the first pick. So I think at this point, both sides are moving on and hopefully doing well after,” the german concluded.
