“Retrocediendo quizá cinco o seis años, diría que cambiamos nuestra metodología y comenzamos a enfocarnos en el desarrollo”, comienza el capitán del Bodø Glimt cuando le preguntamos por el ascenso meteórico del equipo en los últimos años. El mismo que les ha llevado a derrotar a la Roma de Mourinho por 6-1, a medirse al Tottenham la pasada campaña por un puesto en la final de la Europa League y que dentro de unas horas les enfrentará a su propia historia: clasificar por primera vez a la Champions League.
Un sueño que llega en el mejor momento de un club único. En 2017 (aún en Segunda División noruega) el presupuesto del Bodø era de 4,2 millones de euros, en 2024 ingresaron más de 60 ‘kilos’. Nunca habían ganado un título ligero en Primera División, desde 2020 hasta la actualidad lo han conquistado en cuatro ocasiones y esta temporada marchan primeros en la clasificación.

Un ascenso sin precedentes que le sitúan como el club más al norte en ganar una liga y el primer club noruego y del círculo polar ártico en llegar a unas semifinales europeas. Algo único que se basa en una filosofía muy especial. “No nos preocupamos demasiado por los resultados, así que nunca hablamos de ganar, solo hablamos de rendir. Queremos rendir lo mejor posible y entonces sabemos que los resultados llegarán”, asegura Berg a MARCA.
“Tenemos un sistema que conocemos muy bien. Muchos jugadores se han ido al extranjero y luego han vuelto porque la forma en que jugamos es, para mí, muy buena. Por eso muchos futbolistas quieren formar parte de esto y, cuando te vas, te das cuenta de que echas de menos la forma en que hacemos las cosas aquí”, continúa Patrick.

Una leyenda viva del club que atesora una historia familiar difícil de repetir. Su abuelo, su padre y dos tíos también jugaron en el Bodø. “Crecí viendo a mi padre jugar al fútbol. Como la mayoría de la gente, quieres ser como tu padre. Para mí, ha sido un sueño convertirme en futbolista profesional. No diría que mi padre o mi abuelo me hayan presionado para serlo, ha sido mi propio sueño, mi propio deseo”, relata el capitán del Bodø.
La historia les espera
Ahora, tanto él como el resto de sus compañeros se enfrentan a su propia historia. “Nuestro mayor sueño siempre ha sido poder jugar la Champions. Realmente creemos y queremos hacerlo este año. Hemos estado dos veces en la fase previa de la Champions y hemos perdido ambas veces, pero siento que ahora estamos más preparados que nunca. Estamos en nuestro mejor nivel en la historia del club”, asegura.
“El Sturm Graz es un equipo fuerte, jugaron el año pasado la Champions, así que no va a ser fácil. Creo que van a ser dos partidos parejos y ajustados, pero tengo una gran confianza en nuestro equipo y en nuestros jugadores de cara a vencerlos a doble partido para clasificarnos a la Champions League”, concluye el noruego.
