As the NFL preseason winds down this weekend and teams must trim their rosters to 53 players by Tuesday, August 26, ahead of the regular season leading to Super Bowl 60 in San Francisco. Among those vying for a place are brothers Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, sons of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, arguably the greatest cornerback in NFL history.
Shedeur, a quarterback once projected as a first-round pick but selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns, has gained widespread attention despite his draft slide. Shilo, an undrafted free agent safety, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has won over fans with his camp performances. Shilo Sanders Linked to Cowboys Amid Tampa Uncertainty
Speculation is swirling about Shilo Sanders’ future as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers remain undecided on their roster ahead of their preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. With injuries hampering Tampa’s defense, Shilo, an undrafted free agent from Colorado, is fighting for a spot as the fourth-string free safety. A report from PFSN’s Scott DiBenedetto suggests that if the Buccaneers release Shilo, he could land with the Dallas Cowboys, one of his father Deion Sanders’ former teams.
“The Dallas defense needs a major bounce back after a tough season, but Shilo might not fix things alone,” DiBenedetto noted, adding that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones might be tempted by the nostalgia of signing the son of a franchise legend. Shilo has recorded three solo tackles in two preseason games, and a standout performance at Raymond James Stadium could solidify his case to stay in Tampa. However, a move to Dallas would place him in a defense desperate for playmakers but facing its own challenges.
Shilo Sanders’ Potential in the NFL
While it’s not unlikely Shilo Sanders will be cut by Tampa, his NFL journey is just beginning, and as the son of Deion Sanders, opportunities will likely follow. I doubt a move to Dallas will happen immediately, but if one door closes, another could open after teams finalize their rosters next Tuesday.
During his two seasons at Colorado, Shilo appeared in 21 games, amassing 137 tackles, an 80-yard pick-six, five passes defended, three tackles for loss, one sack, and three fumble recoveries, including a touchdown return. These are solid numbers, paired with flashes of brilliance but were tempered by inconsistent moments in big games last season.
