A routine preseason game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears got an unexpected pop culture boost when home-watchers could identify a person in the stands who looked exactly like Taylor Swift.
Viewers and commentators alike double-checked to discover that it was not in fact the singer but rather Ashley Leechin, a popular TikTok influencer famous for resembling Swift.

Leechin really stole the spotlight
Leechin, a former nurse with a huge social media following, constructed her online presence replicating Swift’s iconic style, from ponytail, to make-up, to dressing. When she appeared at Arrowhead Stadium looking identical to the pop star, fans were briefly under the illusion that Swift was in the stands supporting her boyfriend Travis Kelce.

What is a doppelganger?
According to Oxford Dictionary, a doppelgänger is a person who closely resembles another person in appearance, almost like a living double. It is a known concept worldwide, as there are many cases of ‘doppelgängers‘ of media personalities. Even though most cases do not represent a threat to the ‘real persona’, this phenomenon has also been used for illegal purposes.
Ashley Leechin is considered Taylor Swift’s doppelgänger because she naturally resembles Swift, to the point where she can be mistaken for the singer in photos or videos. She admits it and benefits from it, but it does not cause a real problem to Swift.
A wide history of mix-ups
It is not the first time Leechin’s appearance has caused a raise of an eyebrow. In 2023, she made a crowd at a Los Angeles shopping center and downtown Disney in Swift’s uniform, surrounded by “bodyguards” impersonators. Though the pranks went viral, some of Swift’s fans labeled her ways as misleading and potentially unsafe.
The Chiefs preseason game moment added to the cultural interest in Swift, Kelce, and the NFL intersection. A simple and funny similarity in a stadium suite can turn out to be the most talked-about moment online.
Even though it was not the real Taylor Swift in the stands, the event highlighted the growing presence of doppelgängers in sports media and popular culture. In an internet age where the world is socially mediated, even a doppelgänger can make the headlines and prove that perception can be equal to reality.
