Čtyřiadvacetiletý Jeník byl v pozici chráněného volného hráče, když mu vypršela roční dvoucestná smlouva z loňského července. Měla obdobné podmínky, v případě pobytu v hlavním mužstvu to bylo rovněž 775.000 tisíc dolarů, při působení v Belleville v AHL 190.000.
Rodák z Nymburka Jeník přišel do Ottawy loni po výměně z Arizony, která si ho vybrala při draftu v roce 2018 ze 65. místa. Za Senators stihl v uplynulé sezoně dva starty, při nichž nebodoval. Na farmě v Belleville si během 52 utkání připsal 29 bodů za 12 gólů a 17 asistencí.
Celkem má Jeník na kontě v elitní zámořské lize 24 zápasů, v nichž čtyřikrát skóroval a na dvě branky nahrál. V AHL dosud odehrál 217 duelů a zaznamenal 149 bodů (58+91).
