The Las Vegas Raiders have been dealt a major blow on the eve of final roster decisions.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade, signaling he wants to move on from the franchise as he enters the final year of his contract.

The news arrives at a critical moment for the Raiders, who are finalizing their 53-man roster, and it places the organization in an uncomfortable position, especially given Tom Brady‘s recent involvement as a minority owner in the team.
Contract and cap implications
Meyers is currently on the books with a $10.5 million base salary and carries a $14.962 million cap hit for 2025, per OvertheCap.com.
If Las Vegas chose to cut him, they would free up nearly $10.97 million in cap space, but letting a 1,000-yard receiver walk for nothing would be an unexpected move for general manager Tom Telesco. A trade is the far more logical outcome, and given Meyers’ talent, there will likely be no shortage of suitors.
The 27-year-old is coming off the best season of his career, setting personal highs with 87 receptions and 1,027 receiving yards in 2024. That production has boosted his market value and makes him one of the most attractive names available should Las Vegas officially shop him.
Where could Meyers land next?
If the Raiders do decide to part ways with Meyers, several franchises stand out as potential landing spots.
The San Francisco 49ers could make sense, particularly with Brandon Aiyuk expected to miss multiple games and Demarcus Robinson suspended. With John Lynch looking to keep the Niners competitive, Meyers would provide an immediate boost.
The Green Bay Packers, meanwhile, have invested in rookie wideout Matthew Golden but still lack the veteran firepower to challenge top NFC teams like Philadelphia and Detroit.
Similarly, a reunion with the New England Patriots, Meyers’ original team, could be attractive as the Patriots continue to search for stability at wide receiver behind veteran Stefon Diggs.
Other possible destinations include the Buffalo Bills, who lack a true No. 1 option, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who need a complement to DK Metcalf after trading away George Pickens. In short, if Las Vegas agrees to Meyers‘ request, there will be a competitive market.
Meyers‘ request is the latest in a string of high-profile player moves shaking up the NFL. Just weeks ago, Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons publicly asked for a trade, while Washington Commanders star receiver Terry McLaurin did the same before ultimately agreeing to a lucrative three-year extension on Monday.
