Hace unos años los equipos de Arabia irrumpían con todo en el mercado de fichajes del fútbol internacional y con ello dejaron más de una boca abierta. Ahora, una vez que los Al-Nassr, Al Hilal y compañía se han asentado, ha aparecido un nuevo equipo en escena. Este es el Neom SC, un club que busca revolucionar el mundo del fútbol con un proyecto que quiere conquistar Arabia.
El Neom SC es un equipo de reciente creación. Su nombre hasta hace un par de años era Al-Suqoor Club y se fundó en 1965. Desde entonces militó en Tercera y Segunda División la gran mayoría de sus temporadas, hasta que en 2011 quedó segundo y consiguió el ascenso directo, pero desde entonces se enfrentó a lo que fue una caída en picado hasta Tercera División.
De las cenizas de un equipo que tenía como destino ser un ascensor, llegó la empresa NEOM y se hizo con la propiedad de los “Halcones”, que es lo que significa Al-Suqoor en árabe. El 5 de junio de 2023 el Ministerio de Deportes de Arabia Saudí anunció la compra y su nombre cambió a Neom Sports Club, fue a partir de entonces cuando fueron candidatos para subir de categoría, por lo que el destino cambio y sus cenizas ahora arden más que nunca en la máxima competición liguera de Arabia Saudí.
The Line: Una ciudad en el desierto
La empresa conocida como NEOM son los creadores del megaproyecto urbano en la provincia de Tabuk, nombrado The Line. Se trata de una ciudad con 170 kilómetros de longitud, 500 metros de altura y 200 de ancho… y todo esto en mitad de un desierto donde se situará una ciudad que aun está por construir.
A las orillas del Mar Rojo se verá una ciudad incomparable a cualquier otra en la historia, que contará con un efecto espejo en su exterior, sin embargo, aunque todo esto pueda parecer surrealista, lo que deja con la cara desencajada a muchos es que en esta ‘superciudad’ no habrá calles, por lo que toda persona que quiera moverse por allí tendrá que hacerlo a través de un sistema de transporte público subterráneo.
El estadio ubicado en la ciudad artificial del mismo nombre será construido 350 metros por encima del suelo, en lo que será una de las joyas arquitectónicas del Mundial saudí de 2034.
Esto parece algo irreal y es por eso que muchos expertos no creen que sea posible finalizar la obra. “Todo esto sería complicado de implementar en un proyecto así en el que, por ejemplo, la orientación y forma vienen ya impuestas”, aseguró Daniel Sánchez Peinado.
En esta ciudad que ahora mismo es un desierto el Neom tendrá que jugar, por lo que debe tener un estadio y este será el NEOM Stadium. La Copa del Mundo del 2034 se celebrará en Arabia Saudí, por lo que este estadio pretende formar parte del torneo en fase de grupos, dieciseisavos, octavos y cuartos de final. Sin embargo, dicho recinto todavía está sin construir y tiene previsto que se comience en 2027 para tenerlo todo preparado en el 2032.
NEOM Stadium
El NEOM Stadium podrá acoger a 45.000 espectadores en un campo que estará a 350 metros por encima de la superficie y además solo se podrá acceder a través de transporte público o a través del mar. La creación de este estadio ha levantado el ánimo de muchos aficionados, pero también ha despertado las críticas de algunos expertos: “la iniciativa se convertirá en una atrocidad ecológica y moral”, dijo el escritor Adam Greenfield, refiriéndose a la cantidad de emisiones de dióxido de carbono.

A esta crítica inicial, le siguieron varias aun más duras como la comparación con la creación de la bomba creada por Oppenheimer o esto que dijo el distinguido uranista: “Los arquitectos que trabajan en el megaproyecto Neom en Arabia Saudita deben decidir si se contentan con ser cómplices de una atrocidad ecológica y moral“.
Una plantilla a la francesa
Este gigante árabe ha irrumpido con fuerza en el fútbol saudí y además, lo ha hecho en el mercado, desenfundando la billetera y gastando 90 millones de euros. Lo sorprendente es que muchos de ellos no son futbolistas con poco nombre, sino que jugadores como Lacazette, Doucouré y Benrahma han fichado por el Neom.
Podría parecer el PSG de la Ligue 1, sin embargo, es el Neom de la Saudi Pro League, donde los jugadores franceses aparecen sin parar en una plantilla en la que la segunda nacionalidad que más se repite es la francesa.
El motivo parece claro, ya que si se mira al banquillo del conjunto árabe, se puede ver una figura que resulta familiar, Cristopher Galtier. Este es el nombre elegido por los dirigentes del Neom para dirigir a su equipo y resulta que también es francés.
Nathan Zézé, de 20 años, y Saïmon Bouabré, de 19 años, han decidido abandonar el Nantes y el Mónaco para alistarse en las filas del club recién ascendido a la máxima categoría del fútbol saudí. Estas son dos de las perlas que guarda el fútbol francés en su listado de futuras estrellas, sin embargo, de serlo, finalmente, lo serán en el Neom Stadium.
El futuro es algo caprichoso y Arabia y el mundo del fútbol están expectantes por ver que es lo que tiene preparado este equipo que ve el futuro como algo muy próximo.
