The Dolphins continue to maintain that De’Von Achane (calf) will be ready to play in Week 1. While that’s likely to occur, it’s at least fair to question whether he’ll be 100% healthy for that game. With Jaylen Wright expected to miss the start of the season after undergoing leg surgery recently, Ollie Gordon II becomes an intriguing name in the late rounds. Gordon was impressive in the preseason and offers a bigger body to pair with Achane, which could result in some goal-line carries for the rookie. There’s also a chance that Achane doesn’t suit up for the opener, vaulting Gordon into the starting lineup.

All the signs have been pointing towards Joe Mixon missing time at the start of the season with his foot injury, which is why he’s continuously dropped down my rankings over the last month or so. Now, it’s official: Mixon will be sidelined for at least the first four games. I already had him ranked in an area that would have saved you from drafting him, but I’ve moved him even lower with this news. The problem is, there isn’t a clear-cut back to assume all the work in Houston. Nick Chubb is well past his prime and would likely be an early-down and goal-line back only. Dameon Pierce will need to leapfrog Chubb on the depth chart and, even then, he’s also limited as a receiving option. Meanwhile, Woody Marks is more of a passing-down back, who may split work with veteran Dare Ogunbowale early on. It’s even possible the team could bring someone else after cuts or through a trade. When you also consider the uncertainty around the Texans’ offensive line, this is a backfield I’d prefer not to rely on for fantasy — outside of desperation starts.
