Television legend Lee Corso has made a career out of bold statements and unforgettable picks on ESPN’s College GameDay. Whether he was slipping on the mascot headgear or delivering a curveball prediction, Corso never worried much about playing it safe. His flair for the dramatic often left fans buzzing and coaches shaking their heads.
On Saturday, in front of a packed crowd before No. 1 Texas clashed with No. 3 Ohio State, Corso reached for one more bold call. Looking straight into the camera, he threw his support behind a team no one expected.
“Tiger Mom” Erupts in LSU Fan Brawl While Coastal Coaches Ejected in CWS Chaos
“LSU-national championship,” Corso declared, pausing just long enough to let the shock settle in. His pick? The Tigers over Penn State in January’s title game.
A Bold Pick with History Behind It
The announcement immediately reignited memories of LSU’s 2019 title run, when Joe Burrow carved up Clemson in a 42-25 shootout that cemented LSU’s place in college football lore. That night in New Orleans still echoes around Baton Rouge, and Saturday’s matchup against No. 4 Clemson brings those memories back to life.
This time, the Tigers enter the spotlight ranked No. 9, carrying the weight of expectation and skepticism alike. Head coach Brian Kelly knows the path forward is anything but smooth. Clemson’s defense is one of the stingiest in the nation, and LSU is still working to solidify its quarterback play.
Yet, there’s an undeniable sense of momentum. LSU has pulled in back-to-back top recruiting classes and closed last season with a surge that turned heads across the SEC. Add Corso’s parting shot of faith, and suddenly the Tigers’ ceiling feels a little higher.
For a program searching for its next defining moment, Saturday’s clash could be more than just another early-season test. It might be the first real step toward proving Corso right.
