Ještě na jaře hrál třetí ligu za Kroměříž. Zároveň byl učitelem matematiky a tělocviku na tamní základní škole. Poté, co se v červnu upsal prvoligovému nováčkovi ze Zlína a stal se z něj fotbalový profesionál, dal Cupák ve škole výpověď. Nechal si ale dvě hodiny tělocviku týdně.
„Pan ředitel i jeho zástupce jsou oba bývalí fotbalisté. Podporovali mě, ale dali mi i trochu za uši. Vedení muselo překopávat rozvrh a přerozdělit moje hodiny. Takový je ale život,“ řekl Cupák v nedávném rozhovoru pro Sport.cz.
Pro 26letého kantora byl duel na Spartě prvním velkým v kariéře. Nervózní před ním prý ale nebyl, i přes porážku si ho užil. „Osobně jsem se fyzicky cítil dobře, necítil jsem únavu. Atmosféra byla parádní, odnáším si zážitek,“ prohlásil Cupák.

Po konci zápasu mu hlavou blesklo, jestli si jako památku na utkání nevymění dres s některým ze sparťanů. Nakonec k tomu nedošlo. „Domácí měli děkovačku, já jsem šel za rodinou. Odnáším si jako zážitek celý zápas,“ podotkl Cupák.

Se Zlínem rozehráli sezonu výtečně. Dá se říct, že nad očekávání. Na Spartě ale neměli Moravané šanci. „Domácí ukázali kvalitu. V prvních dvaceti minutách jsme byli špatní, ztráceli jsme míče, dostali jsme se pod tlakem. Jsme ale rádi, že jsme aspoň dali gól,“ pronesl Cupák.
„Kdybychom si odvezli bod, byl by to zázrak. Kluky musím ale pochválit, že to po druhém gólu nezabalili. Přece jen nemůžu kritizovat, že prohráli na Spartě,“ doplnil trenér Bronislav Červenka.
