This past weekend kicked off a new NCAA season, where Arch Manning stole the spotlight with his challenging debut as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns against Ohio State. But there was another debut-Bill Belichick’s debut as Head Coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels-and it was even more disappointing.
Fans are concerned! Bill Belichick girlfriend Jordon Hudson calls plays for Tar Heels in practice
It’s worth remembering that Bill Belichick had one of the most successful careers in the NFL with the New England Patriots, winning 6 Super Bowls alongside Tom Brady. As a result, expectations for his work in the NCAA are high. However, he did not start off on the right foot, and criticism quickly followed.
Belichick made his UNC Head Coach debut against TCU and suffered a 48-14 loss, where the Horned Frogs were completely dominant. The Tar Heels started strong, but quickly collapsed and showed no ability to respond-something Belichick always had with the Patriots in the NFL.
Mike Vrabel, Patriots head coach, sends a message to Bill Belichick
Mike Vrabel, after playing part of his 14-year NFL career with the New England Patriots, has returned to the organization this season-but as Head Coach-following successful years in that position with the Tennessee Titans. He’s now back “home,” where he’s well-loved by Patriots fans.
On Tuesday morning, on The Greg Hill Show, Mike Vrabel was asked about Bill Belichick’s difficult NCAA debut. He noted that some coaches have immediate success, which didn’t happen with Belichick, yet expectations remain high.
“I don’t know. Urban Meyer won 12 of his first 12 games at Ohio State, so it didn’t take him long,” Vrabel said. “I think I can only imagine the current landscape of college football, but… I’m sure it’s probably not that easy outside the top programs.”
The next game for the North Carolina Tar Heels, where Bill Belichick will look to redeem himself, will be next Saturday against UNC Charlotte. The Tar Heels are heavy favorites (21.5) to win and put the TCU blowout behind them.
