There’s no doubt that the Buffalo Bills are the favorites in their division and a strong contender in the American Conference to reach the Super Bowl-a game they haven’t played since way back in 1993. Now, with Josh Allen, the opportunity is significant. However, time is running out, and this could be the decisive year.
Josh Allen vs Joe Burrow: Highlights that fuel the debate
Beyond going for their sixth consecutive AFC East title, that alone is not enough. This year for the Bills is “Super Bowl or nothing,” a potential total failure for the organization led by Sean McDermott. If nothing unusual happens, the Bills will make the playoffs-and once there, it’s all about advancing. They have to break through the wall that has blocked them for so long.
That wall is called Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Since Josh Allen became the Bills’ quarterback, they have been defeated by the Chiefs four times in the playoffs-twice in the AFC Championship game, the most recent being last season. In a painful fashion, the Bills fell in the final minutes.
Khalil Shakir performed a heroic act a week before the season started
Even without top-tier receivers, Josh Allen has managed to maximize the talent around him, and one example is Khalil Shakir. A Boise State product drafted by the Bills in 2022, Shakir was the team’s best receiver in the 2024 season, setting high expectations for the upcoming season.
Although Khalil Shakir is fully focused on 2025, he performed a heroic act off the field. According to Nickel City Canine Rescue, Shakir helped find homes for 19 puppies on Sunday. The following message was shared on Facebook:
“Yesterday, Khalil Shakir helped us welcome 19 dogs in Buffalo. For the first time, they slept with full stomachs, warm blankets, and calm hearts. No more fear, no more uncertainty. Only the love and security they deserve.”
“And the best part? They didn’t just find safety… they found a family. Because here in Buffalo, Bills Mafia supports its own,” wrote Nickel City Canine Rescue on their Facebook page.
Shakir, a Bills receiver, recently signed a four-year, $62 million contract extension. Remember, he was a fifth-round pick in 2022 and is coming off his best season with 821 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns.
