Kayla Nicole has found herself under constant scrutiny ever since Travis Kelce began dating Taylor Swift in 2023.
The sports journalist dated the Kansas City Chiefs tight end for years before their final split in 2022, and nearly every public remark she makes has drawn commentary from fans still fixated on the past.

On the latest episode of her The Pre-Game podcast, Nicole addressed the criticism head-on, insisting that speaking openly about her life does not mean she is trying to reignite old drama.
“For me, I don’t fear necessarily being canceled because I don’t think people hold that power,” Nicole told guest Heather Sanders.
She added that her faith gives her perspective: “God has a plan for me, and haters can’t change the trajectory of my life.”
Nicole affected by online comments
Despite her confidence, Nicole admitted the backlash takes a toll.
“However, I’m sensitive. I am triggered,” she said. “I want to clear my name. I want to address it.”
The 33-year-old acknowledged that her attempts to clarify often get misinterpreted.
“That’s my fear, too, is when I address things, instead of me talking about lived experience, people think it’s just me constantly trying to rehash bullsh*t,” Nicole explained. “When in reality, I’m just a human who wants to talk about my life.”
A narrative she can’t control
Since Kelce’s high-profile romance with Swift began, Nicole has been repeatedly accused online of shading the pop superstar or trying to insert herself into the couple’s story.
Most recently, fans pointed to social media posts they believed were subtle digs at Swift, though Nicole has never directly named her.
For Nicole, the frustration lies in not being able to control how her words are framed. What she views as honest reflection, others interpret as bitterness. Her comments on the podcast highlight that tension, as she wants space to share her experiences without being accused of living in the past.
While Nicole can’t escape the constant comparisons to Kelce’s new relationship, she is choosing to address the situation with candor.
By speaking openly about the emotional impact of online criticism, Kayla reframed herself not as a villain in someone else’s narrative but as a woman navigating her own.
