The 2025 NFL Draft left us with several stories to tell, but the ones who continue to be the talk of the town are running backs Omarion Hampton and Ashton Jeanty.
The rookies from the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders showed why their teams made the right choice in drafting them and broke an historic NFL record.

Hampton and Jeanty make NFL history
After falling to the NY Giants 21-18, their first loss of the season, the Chargers are now 3-1. However, Hampton had 128 yards and a touchdown on the ground and 37 yards through the air.
For their part, the Raiders have a 1-3 record and, despite a difficult start to the season, Jeanty shone for his team against the Chicago Bears. The sixth overall draft pick finished with three touchdowns and 155 yards from scrimmage, including 138 rushing yards.
These rookie numbers changed NFL history as, with a combined 737 yards in Week 4, Hampton and Jeanty achieved the highest total of any rookies in any week in September, according to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell.
Now, heading into Week 5, they not only share a record but also concerns about their respective teams’ offensive lines without their left tackles.
The Raiders lost Kolton Miller to an ankle injury. The Chargers, meanwhile, had just lost Rashawn Slater for the rest of the season to a torn patellar tendon in his left leg, and now they’ve also lost his replacement, Joe Alt, who suffered a sprained ankle.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, October 5, the Indianapolis Colts will host the Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium, and the Washington Commanders will face the Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
