El Olympiacos no falló este martes en Vitoria ante un atrevido Baskonia que miró a los ojos al equipo de El Pireo (96-102) en el estreno de su técnico Paolo Galbiati en la Euroliga de baloncesto.
El choque estuvo marcado por un fatal inicio de los locales que tuvieron que remar para recuperar la iniciativa a base de velocidad, acierto exterior y ataques rápidos, pero que no pudieron frenar a Nikola Milutinov en la pintura, que acabó con 12 puntos y 14 rebotes.

Sasha Vezenkov apareció cuando más lo necesitaron los griegos y Thomas Walkup fue el engranaje perfecto de un candidato a todo una campaña más.
Galbiati fue fiel a sus intenciones y el Baskonia, que tuvo en Tim Luwawu-Cabarrot y Trent Forrest a sus mejores jugadores, acarició el triunfo.
Inicio griego arrollador
El equipo griego salió como una locomotora y arrolló a los baskonistas en los primeros minutos con un parcial de 0-12, cargado de errores locales, pérdidas de balón y concesiones de canastas. Los primeros puntos de los vitorianos llegó tras más de cuatro minutos, después de que el técnico italiano cambiara el quinteto inicial al completo.

Pero el búlgaro Sasha Vezenkov campó a sus anchas y marcó el camino a sus compañeros, que aprovecharon el desconcierto de un equipo sin hacer y sin rodaje en pretemporada.
El francés Clement Frisch lideró la reacción azulgrana con ocho puntos consecutivos, pero el juego cerca del aro del Olympiacos seguía castigando a los vascos, que se engancharon al partido desde el acierto exterior (20-27).
El Baskonia mejoró su nivel defensivo en el segundo asalto y se colocó a dos puntos, 29-31, a pesar de que el plantel de El Pireo insistía desde el poste bajo en busca de la diferencia física en los emparejamientos.
Tirón de Olympiacos y reacción baskonista
Los griegos asumieron el reto y entraron en la velocidad que propuso el Baskonia y les fue bien, pero solo por un momento. El Olympiacos recuperó la renta de diez puntos, hasta que apareció en escena Hamidou Diallo para revolucionar otra reacción local hasta el descanso (48-49).
Un triple de Tadas Sedekerskis, que abrió la segunda mitad, dio la primera ventaja a los locales, que completaron un parcial de 12-0 para igualar el encuentro.

El Olympiacos tuvo paciencia para generar ventajas y abrió otro hueco que cerró Markquis Nowell con tres buenas acciones consecutivas.
Sasha Vezenkov sostuvo a su equipo, que logró mantener el liderato con diez minutos por delante tras bajar el porcentaje exterior de su rival, 70-73.
Tim Luwawu-Cabarrot, con nueve puntos seguidos, fue el hombre a seguir durante buena parte del último periodo en el que midió fuerzas con Tyler Dorsey, responsable de gran parte de los ataques griegos.
Ataques rápidos de los baskonistas
A pesar de que llegaron por delante en los momentos calientes, los azulgranas no renunciaron a su estilo y no dejaron de hacer tiros con pocos segundos de posesión.
Apareció el francés Evan Fournier con seis puntos consecutivos para darle la vuelta a un marcador que se abrió con dos triples inesperados de Sasha Vezenkov y Thomas Walkup, que enderezaron la victoria del Olympiacos en Vitoria, 96-102.
