Another victim of the synthetic turf at MetLife Stadium. This time, it was the star receiver of the New York Giants, Malik Nabers, who suffered a severe knee injury in the second quarter of the game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The following day, it was confirmed that Nabers had torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will miss the remainder of the 2025 season.
MetLife’s Stadium turf curse strikes again as Malik Nabers joins long list of injured players
The injury occurred when Malik Nabers tried to catch a deep pass from rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart on a free play. The scene was dramatic and silenced MetLife Stadium, as the LSU product clutched his knee in visible pain.
Despite the setback, the New York Giants managed to secure their first win of the season, marking a surprise victory during Jaxson Dart’s first start, as he threw a couple of touchdowns against the Chargers. However, they have now lost their most talented player.
Robert Griffin III Calls on the Giants to Sign Odell Beckham Jr
After this brutal blow to the Giants, the season moves forward, and the team needs depth at wide receiver-especially to support rookie Jaxson Dart, who undoubtedly needs both talent and experience. For now, Darius Slayton will serve as the primary receiver. While he has performed well, it is not enough.
As a result, social media users have begun pushing for the Giants to bring Odell Beckham Jr. back. Beckham is not retired, and although he is no longer the same player who made his name with the Giants, he could significantly aid Dart’s development. Robert Griffin III even called for the veteran’s signing on his X account.
There is no doubt that Beckham Jr. put up incredible numbers with the Giants. In five years, he recorded 390 receptions for 5,476 yards and 44 touchdowns, averaging 14.0 yards per catch. His standout season was his 2014 rookie year, when he had 91 receptions for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was a three-time Pro Bowler and earned All-Pro honors in 2014.
Over 12 NFL seasons, his numbers have clearly declined-just 9 receptions for 55 yards last season with the Miami Dolphins-but at this moment, he would still be a valuable addition for the New York Giants.
