Grading all 32 first-round rookies after Week 4

  • Abdul Carter terrorized the Chargers’ banged-up offensive line: The third overall pick didn’t record a sack, but his eight pressures and 92.1 PFF pass-rush grade were both top-five marks among qualified edge defenders in Week 4.
  • Ashton Jeanty has arrived: A slow start to his rookie campaign gave way to an explosive three-touchdown day for the elusive running back, resulting in an 83.4 PFF overall grade.

Estimated Reading Time: 15 minutes

Week 4 is in the books, and several of the NFL’s first-round rookies made their impact felt. We’re once again breaking down their PFF grades, performances and principal opponents as they progress through their debut seasons.

Pick No. 1: Tennessee Titans: QB Cam Ward

  • Overall Rookie Grade: 52.8 (Rank: 1/1)
  • Principal Opponent: N/A
  • Week 4 Snaps: 50
  • Week 4 Grade: 41.5

Ward battled through another tough outing as Tennessee’s pass protection failed to give him many chances for success. He was pressured on 51.6% of his dropbacks against Houston despite being blitzed less than 20% of the time.

Ward’s lone big-time throw came on an early play when he rolled to his right and fired a deep pass to Elic Ayomanor, who was all the way back on the left hash. The Titans need to find a way to better protect Ward if he’s going to consistently produce.

Pick No. 2: Jacksonville Jaguars: WR/CB Travis Hunter

  • Overall Rookie Grade (Offense): 54.5 (Rank: 8/10)
  • Principal Opponent (Offense): Fred Warner
  • Week 4 Offense Snaps: 38
  • Week 4 Offense Grade: 56.1
  • Overall Rookie Grade (Defense): 69.6 (Rank: 3/11)
  • Principal Opponent (Defense): Ricky Pearsall
  • Week 4 Defense Snaps: 9
  • Week 4 Defense Grade: 68.9

Hunter’s snap count leaned more toward the offensive side of the ball this week, as he played just nine snaps at cornerback. His best play as a wide receiver was an acrobatic catch down the middle of the field that resulted in a 28-yard gain. Unfortunately, he earned just a 53.8 PFF receiving grade because he fumbled after one of his other receptions. Hunter made two tackles while playing cornerback and allowed one catch totaling seven yards.

‘No pressure’ on Fabian Hurzeler to play Charalampos Kostoulas, says Brighton owner

Owner Tony Bloom says there is “no pressure” on Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler to make more use of £30million summer signing Charalampos Kostoulas. The Greek forward was an unused substitute for Brighton’s 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last fixture before the October international break. It was the first time the 18-year-old buy from Olympiacos featured in the matchday squad in the opening seven Premier League games of the season.AdvertisementHurzeler is also taking his time with 19-year-old winger Tommy Watson. The £10m summer signing from Sunderland has been on the bench for three of the last four league games without making his league debut for the club.“Every young player develops at a different rate and Fabian will know when to bring those players in,” Bloom said during an interview with selected media including The Athletic. “It […]

MLB playoffs 2025: Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s near-cycle leads the way as Blue Jays storm back for ALCS Game 3 victory vs. Mariners

SEATTLE — As the ball rolled rapidly toward the right-center-field wall, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s eyes grew wide. For the fourth time in four at-bats Wednesday in ALCS Game 3, Guerrero had blistered an offering from a Mariners pitcher and was about to reap the rewards. But this was more than just another well-struck ball. Guerrero’s first three hits of the night were a high-bouncing chopper that he legged out for an infield single, a screaming line-drive double that nearly dented the left-field fence and a booming home run to straightaway center field. If Guerrero kicked it into high gear as his fourth batted ball scurried toward the fence and raced for a triple, a cycle — just the second in MLB postseason history — was within reach.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAlas, it was not to be.
