Ex-Frankfurter Hugo Ekitiké ist aktuell Liverpools Top-Torjäger mit fünf Treffern. Bis auf seinen Jubel-Blackout gegen den FC Southampton im League Cup (2:1), für den er Gelb-Rot sah, legt der Franzose einen Gala-Start beim Erstplatzierten der Premier League hin.
Unangefochten ist sein Platz in Liverpools Kader allerdings. Nach seinem Wechsel verstärkte sich der Meister zusätzlich mit Alexander Isak von Newcastle. Zwei Top-Stürmer, die um die Möglichkeit buhlen, für Trainer Arne Slot auf Torjagd zu gehen.
Ekitikés Augenmerk bei Liverpool liegt nach eigener Aussage vor allem darauf, sich weiterzuentwickeln – und dabei sehe er Isak dabei nicht als Konkurrenz, sondern als wertvollen Partner.

Beim 1:2 gegen Crystal Palace in der Premier League fehlte Ekitike gesperrt, nachdem er im Ligapokal nach seinem Tor das Trikot auszog, Gelb-Rot sah und sich so selbst aus dem Spiel genommen hatte.
