Nach dem Pokal-Aus gegen Bamberg und dem Fehlstart in der Easycredit BBL gegen den Syntainics verloren Hamburgs Basketballer zum Start in den EuroCup gegen Hapoel Jerusalem das dritte Heimspiel in sieben Tagen mit 85:100 (50:53). Auch wenn sie gegen das europäische Top-Team ihre bislang beste Leistung zeigten.

Wegen der angespannten politischen Lage hatten die Behörden die Partie als Hochsicherheits-Spiel eingestuft. Die Inselpark-Arena wurde von einer Hundertschaft der Polizei geschützt. Die Fans mussten verschärfte Kontrollen über sich ergehen lassen und es galt ein Taschenverbot. Sogar die Sachen der Spieler wurden von Spürhunden kontrolliert.
Die beste Nachricht des Abends: Rund um das Spiel blieb alles friedlich!
[–>Verheerend ist dagegen die Bilanz der Türme: Saison-übergreifend haben sie ihre letzten acht Pflichtspiele verloren! Schon am Ende der letzten Spielzeit hatten die Hamburger fünf Pleiten in Serie kassiert. Den letzten Heimsieg gab’s zu Ostern, am 20. April, in der Barclays Arena ausgerechnet gegen den Meister FC Bayern. Doch die Zeit lässt sich nicht zurückdrehen.
Das merkten die Hamburger gegen den israelischen Super-Cup-Sieger – und zwar ganz wörtlich.
Das Dauer-Nerv-Thema: Die Spieluhr! Im ersten Viertel fiel die Technik beim Stand von 23:23 (8.) zum ersten Mal aus. Weil das Problem auf die Schnelle nicht zu lösen war, musste mobiler Ersatz in die Ecken des Spielfeldes gerollt werden. Nach sieben endlosen Minuten ging es endlich weiter.
Besonders ärgerlich für die Towers vor der Minuskulisse von 822 Fans. Denn die Unterbrechung kostete sie den offensiven Rhythmus! Hapoel legte einen 8:0-Lauf hin, von dem sich die Hamburger nie mehr richtig erholten. Obwohl sie gegen den „Arbeiter-Verein“ Hapoel ackerten, sich 21 (!) Offensiv-Rebounds holten und endlich auch mal die Dreier trafen.

Das Hauptproblem blieb die Defensive. Das änderte sich auch nicht, nachdem die Uhr im zweiten Viertel erneut ausfiel und die Zeit stehenblieb.
Zu allem Überfluss krachte dann auch noch Antreiber Osaro Jürgen Rich kurz vor der Halbzeit auf die rechte Hand und musste von zwei Betreuern in die Kabine geleitet werden und musste in ins Krankenhaus! Bis dahin war das Eigengewächs mit 10 Punkten zweitbester Hamburger.
Nach der Pause spielten die Hamburger noch zehn gut mit. Dann mussten sie gegen die körperlich überlegenen Gäste abreißen lassen. Bester Werfer war Jerusalems Khadeen Carrington (19 Punkte), Austin Wiley gelang mit 14 Punkten und 11 Rebounds ein sogenanntes „Double-Double“. Top-Scorer war der Hamburger Eric Reed mit 21 Punkten!
Für die Towers wird es nun nicht leichter. In der Easycredit BBL geht’s am Freitag zu den Niners Chemnitz (15 Uhr) und Sonntag zum Meister FC Bayern (18 Uhr, beides live auf Dyn).

Ulm gelingt Willens-Sieg in Ankara
Traumstart dagegen für Ratiopharm Ulm. In Gruppe B gewann der Vizemeister ein intensiver Kampf-Spiel bei Turk Telekom Ankara mit 96:93 (48:39) dank einer starken Willensleistung. Beste Werfer: Mark Smith (23 Punkte) und Tobias Jensen (18). Trainer Ty Harrelson: „Ich bin stolz auf meine Mannschaft, dass sie diesen Auftaktsieg einfahren konnte. Nach einer schwierigen Anfangsphase haben wir unseren Gameplan gut umgesetzt und den Ball gegen eine aggressive Verteidigung super bewegt. Wir haben gezeigt, dass wir eine Führung trotz schwieriger Umstände und immensen Foulproblemen verteidigen können.“
Die Niners Chemnitz starten als dritter deutscher Vertreter am Mittwoch bei Panionios Athen (18.30 Uhr).
