The Cowboys and Packers delivered what for many was the best game of the season so far and although the team’s performance is clearly improving, the outlook is becoming increasingly bleak for Schottenheimer.
In Dallas, they are going through a difficult few weeks following the injury to CeeDee Lamb, their best wide receiver. However, Brian Schottenheimer offered positive news that could change the course of the offense led by Dak Prescott.

In Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers, the Cowboys finished with a 40-40 tie. The game highlighted two realities: defensive problems and the absence of Lamb. With the star receiver out with an ankle sprain, the offense lost explosiveness and confidence.
The first projections indicated that Lamb could miss at least two games, which set off alarm bells in Dallas. However, Schottenheimer calmed the speculation:
CeeDee Lamb is trending in the right direction; currently no plans to place him on IR
This means that Lamb could return soon, avoiding the minimum four-game absence imposed by the IR list. This is excellent news for fans who are hoping to see him back in action.
How does CeeDee Lamb’s absence affect Dak Prescott?
Dallas’ offense has not been halted, but it has been forced to reorganize. With Lamb out, George Pickens became the main target for Dak Prescott, proving to be up to the task with a 134-yard, two-touchdown game against Green Bay
Alongside him, Jalen Tolbert took on a more prominent role, while KaVontae Turpin, a regular on special teams, began to add more offensive plays. Ryan Flournoy also joined the rotation, although the lack of experience in this receiving corps is evident.
This scenario forces Prescott to be more creative in distributing the ball and rely less on the stellar connection with Lamb.
What’s next for the Cowboys?
In the short term, the Cowboys will have to survive against teams such as the Jets and Panthers, games in which their offense could keep up. But the real challenge will come against the Commanders and Broncos, where they will need CeeDee Lamb’s route accuracy and ability to open up the field.
The return of Lamb will not only bolster the offense, but also free up Pickens, who has already shown his potential. The combination of the two receivers could transform Prescott into a more dangerous quarterback, capable of creating mismatches against any opposing secondary.
