Marcelino García Toral, entrenador del Villarreal, se emocionó tras el partido en el que su equipo empató en el minuto 90 ante la Juventus, en La Cerámica. Al técnico asturiano, además de analizar el encuentro y referirse a cuestiones puramente futbolísticas, se le quebró la voz cuando recordó que este era su primer partido de Champions con el Villarreal en La Cerámica, que coincidía con el undécimo aniversario de la muerte de su padre.
¿Qué sensaciones le deja el partido y el empate?: “Sensaciones extraordinarias porque jugamos contra un gran rival y competimos de tú a tú. Es lo que queríamos y lo hemos hecho. Para ganar hay que aprovechar los momentos y lo tuvimos en el primer tiempo. Fuimos superiores y pudimos irnos con una ventaja mayor al descanso. En el segundo ellos salieron mejor, nos superaron con su presión. Un rival así nos puede meter dos goles y los metió. Pero nos repusimos, este equipo tiene alma, capacidad, ambición. Demuestra en dos partidos consecutivos que puede competir con cualquiera. Es una pena porque ellos tuvieron ocasiones, pero en las ocasiones más importantes siempre fuimos por delante. De haber metido una segunda, hubiera sido diferente. Da igual, estoy muy contento”
¿Qué opinión tiene del arbitraje y de dos posibles penaltis no pitados a favor del Villarreal?: “No puedo hablar del arbitraje, ha pitado lo que ha creído oportuno. Si él y el VAR así lo deciden, se respeta”.
Capacidad de reacción tras sus goles: “La capacidad de reacción ha sido magnífica tras dos acciones que pudimos defender mejor eso demuestra que tenemos alma, fe y cree en lo que hace”
¿Hacen cuentas para la clasificación? “Merecemos más de lo que tenemos, que es un punto en dos partidos. El inicio era complicado ante Tottenham, Juve y ahora City, muy superiores en presupuesto. Competir una vez puede ser posible, dos ya no es casualidad. Me llena de orgullo ver como juega mi equipo. Nos faltó ese pelín de acierto para anotar el segundo, pero me voy muy satisfecho”.
Equipo competitivo en Liga y Champions: “Hemos intentado hacer un equipo competitivo. El año pasado acabamos a seis puntos del tercero. Ahora vamos terceros y en Champions competimos ante rivales de mucha entidad. La Juve es un equipo muy físico y hemos sido capaces de pelear con ellos. Ellos han tenido mucho ritmo de juego y competitividad. A nivel de juego hemos sido iguales. Somos un equipo joven con muy poca experiencia en este tipo de partidos pero que cree en lo que hace, tiene alma y energía. Es una pena no tener más puntos y hay que seguir insistiendo y mejorando. Hay bajas de gente importantes pero el equipo va. Era una competición para disfrutar y creo que estamos compitiendo”.
¿Qué le ha parecido el ambiente en La Cerámica: “Para mí era un día muy especial porque el uno de octubre no es uno de mis mejores días. Hace once años, cuando iba a debutar con el Villarreal [en Europa League, en La Cerámica, contra el Apollon], murió mi padre. Once años después me coincide debut en la Champìons y en este campo. Parece que el destino lo quiso. Seguro que nos ayudó a todos a jugar un partido maravilloso ante un gran rival y conseguir este empate. Estoy emocionado por el recuerdo y orgulloso por el equipo. La gente ha estado fenomenal en una noche grande, hay que ser consciente de lo que es para el Villarreal una noche así. El rival ha jugado 25 Champions y tiene dos títulos. Ole por el Villarreal”.
