The start of the 2025 season has been turbulent for the Dallas Cowboys, and the main victim seems to be Dak Prescott
Despite his good individual numbers, the quarterback has fallen victim to a series of questionable decisions by owner Jerry Jones, who has prioritized contracts and moves that have weakened the team at key moments.
Dak Prescott makes young fans dream come true after Cowboys win
Prescott, indispensable but unprotected
Jones recently stated that “Dak was indispensable”, justifying his multi-million dollar contract extension over keeping Micah Parsons, who was sent to the Green Bay Packers in a controversial trade. Although Prescott responded with a brilliant performance against the Packers (319 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs), the lack of defensive support and media pressure has left him in a vulnerable position.
Mistakes that are repeated
The loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 3 once again exposed the team’s structural problems. Prescott threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter, while the defense, without Parsons, was unable to contain Caleb Williams. Jerry Jones was caught on camera visibly upset, reflecting the internal tension in the franchise.
An “all-in” that never came
Jones assured that the Cowboys were “all-in” this season, but the moves contradict that claim. He let go of key players such as Tony Pollard, Tyron Smith and Stephon Gilmore, and replaced them with veterans such as Ezekiel Elliott and Eric Kendricks, without really strengthening the roster. In addition, Prescott’s late extension and the lack of renewal for CeeDee Lamb generated internal friction.
Pressure without support
Prescott has been singled out as the leader of the team, but without a solid offensive line or a dominant defense, his margin for error is reduced. The statistics back him up: more than 900 yards in three games, six touchdowns and only two interceptions. However, the Cowboys are 1-2 and the fans are beginning to lose patience.
Prescott’s future in Dallas?
Dak Prescott’s situation with the Cowboys reflects inconsistent management by Jerry Jones, where administrative decisions have left the quarterback without the support he needs to succeed. Although Jones considers him indispensable, roster moves and a lack of long-term vision have turned Prescott into the target of criticism and the symbol of a franchise that fails to make the definitive leap. If the Cowboys do not correct course, Prescott’s talent could continue to be wasted in a structure that neither protects nor empowers him.
