Trenérka loňského spoluvítěze Sexy Lorda Martina Růžičková se něčemu podobnému chce vyhnout, a proto svého hyperaktivního svěřence už měsíc a půl do výběhu nepustila. „Bojím se o zranění. Chodí zabandážovaný, kde se dá, jak na kolotoč, tak do tréninku,“ řekla při losování.
V této sezoně Sexy Lord vyhrál v květnu první kvalifikaci na Velkou pardubickou. V srpnu na třetí kvalifikaci doběhl druhý za Chelmsfordem, kterému pro vrchol tuzemské překážkové dostihové sezony nejvíce věří bookmakeři sázkových kanceláří.

Svěřenec osminásobného vítěze Velké pardubické Josefa Váni staršího Chelmsford se právě na kvalifikaci vracel po roční pauze zaviněné zraněním, které ho loni připravilo o start ve Velké pardubické. Nyní je fit.
„Aktuální zpráva je, že zdraví drží. Zvládne všechno, co mu trenér naplánoval. Teď jenom vydržet posledních pár dní na start,“ uvedl žokej Jan Kratochvíl, který ho ve Velké pardubické pojede. Bude mít šanci navázat na svůj triumf z roku 2017 s koněm No Time to Lose.
Jako vítěz jednoho z kvalifikačních dostihů nastoupí loni třetí Dulcar de Sivola, jemuž dnes vylosovali dvanáctku. Prvenství nebude kvůli zranění obhajovat Godfrey.
Loni měla Velká pardubická poprvé dva vítěze. Při těsném doběhu se nepovedlo pořídit cílovou fotografii vinou chyby obsluhy cílové kamery, takže nešlo určit, zda byl v cíli dříve Godfrey, nebo Sexy Lord.
