In his first postseason outing, Cam Schlittler threw eight scoreless innings, striking out 12 opposing batters without giving up a single walk.
With 107 pitches, it was a work of absolute dominance over the best of the opposing team. Thanks to that, the Yankees won 4-0 and secured their place in the American League Division Series.
Schlitter’s performance was so extraordinary that he broke records, as he became the first pitcher in postseason history to pitch eight scoreless innings, strike out 12 and not allow a walk
In addition, Schlittler set a new franchise record for the Yankees for most strikeouts in his playoff debut, surpassing the performances of Red Ruffing and Dave Righetti

Facing the Red Sox under pressure is no easy task, especially when your opponent’s social media mocks or tries to heat up the game. Cam Schlittler admitted that he received taunts from Boston fans, “For me it was personal,” he said
These criticisms served as fuel to motivate Cam Schlittler to deliver an outstanding performance and help the Yankees stay in the hunt for MLB glory.
Schlittler, from rookie to rotation mainstay
Although he has only 15 Major League starts, Schlittler has shown that he is not weighed down by the big stage. In the regular season, he posted a 2.96 ERA in 73 innings pitched, with 84 strikeouts and a 1.22 WHIP.
That consistency gave him the opportunity to be the pitcher chosen for the decisive game, over other more established candidates. His ability to pitch with velocity, mix pitches and maintain control under pressure now places him as one of the players to watch in the Bombers’ roster as they head into the World Series.
