Sin embargo, los cuartos de final del P1 de Róterdam tuvieron dos protagonistas inesperados: Mike Yanguas y Coki Nieto. La pareja número cuatro, cuya relación dentro y fuera de la pista siempre había parecido impecable, protagonizó un encontronazo durante su partido ante Jon Sanz y Paquito Navarro.
El primer set cayó del lado del malagueño y el madrileño con cierta solvencia: un 6-3 que reflejaba la superioridad de Coki y Mike sobre sus rivales. Sin embargo, todo cambió en la segunda manga, cuando empezaron a verse completamente superados por Jon y Paquito. Llevas desde el segundo set parado”. En ese momento, el drive explotó: “Falta comunicación. Estoy animando todo el p*** rato. Parecemos bipolares. He venido a hablarte 30 veces a tu esquina y no me has dicho nada. No me importa lo que pase en la pista, pero vamos a comunicarnos”. Coki, encendido igualmente, volvió a contestar a su compañero: “Mike, deja de poner excusas y de echar balones fuera. Te faltan patas por un tubo y lo puedes achacar a cualquier cosa, pero si no te puedes mover, lo dices. Estás parado, tío”.

Tras la discusión, terminaron cediendo el segundo set y todo se decidió en el tercero. No obstante, lejos de mantener esa dinámica negativa, supieron recomponerse y cerraron la victoria por 6-3, 1-6 y 6-3. Un triunfo que les devuelve a unas nuevas semifinales: ya suman seis de forma consecutiva.
No es la primera vez que pasa
No es habitual ver a Coki Nieto y Mike Yanguas discutir. De hecho, durante muchos meses de la temporada han sido ejemplo de relación sólida, manteniéndose unidos incluso en momentos de rachas negativas. Sin embargo, en Róterdam se les está viendo algo más irascibles, ya que el encontronazo en los cuartos de final no ha sido el único de la semana.
Demasiada paciencia tengo contigo
En su duelo de dieciseisavos ante David Gala y Lucas Campagnolo también protagonizaron un cruce de palabras en los banquillos. El partido se les complicó y tuvieron que recurrir al tercer set, pero lograron cerrar el triunfo. Eso sí, con un intercambio que pasó bastante desapercibido en redes sociales. “Quiero que grites”, reclamó Coki. “Vale, pero me lo puedes decir de otra forma. No tienes mucha paciencia conmigo”, respondió Mike. “Demasiada paciencia tengo”, zanjó Nieto.
En cualquier caso, más allá de la tensión, los resultados acompañan. La pareja número cuatro ha ganado todos sus partidos en suelo neerlandés y ya está en semifinales, donde les esperan Arturo Coello y Agustín Tapia. Será una nueva oportunidad para romper la barrera de las últimas rondas y volver a una final tras muchos meses quedándose a las puertas.
