Nurmagomedov impide la venganza de Hughes y se corona como campeón de PFL

PFL viajó hasta Dubái para realizar una de las revanchas más esperadas de los últimos años en el mundo de las MMA, la de Usman Nurmagomedov (20-0-1) y Paul Hughes (14-3). El primo de Khabib se llevó el primer duelo entre ambos por decisión tras una pelea muy ajustada, y en esta ocasión volvió a ocurrir lo mismo gracias a una gran estrategia del peleador daguestaní que le permitió imponerse por decisión unánime para llevarse el cinturón de peso ligero de la compañía. Esta vez no hubo ‘vendetta’.

En el primer asalto fue Usman el que dominó a Paul a través del grappling, pero en el segundo el irlandés supo cambiar el guión del combate con grandes manos. En el tercero, más de tanteo, un derribo tardío del primo de Khabib le volvió a poner con ventaja, pero se pudo ver cómo ambos se conocían a la perfección. Igualdad máxima.

En el cuarto asalto Usman volvió a dar uso de la lucha para imponerse a Hughes, aunque los golpes bajos jugaron un papel importante durante toda la pelea. Hasta en tres ocasiones se tuvo que parar el combate por culpa de estos golpes involuntarios del daguestaní. En el último asalto Paul sabía que tenía que finalizar, e hizo todo lo posible para que así fuese, pero no fue suficiente. Nurmagomedov aguantó el tipo para conseguir el cinturón, mantener el invicto y finalizar de una vez por todas la rivalidad.

Un veterano vuelve a ser campeón

En el combate co estelar, Corey Anderson (20-6) se impuso por decisión unánime a Dovlet Yagshimuradov (25-8-1) tras un combate en el que ambos se mostraron muy cansados desde el segundo asalto. El ex campeón de peso semipesado de Bellator y veterano de la UFC tiró de experiencia para convertirse en el nuevo campeón de peso semipesado de PFL, sumando así otro logro más a su extenso palmarés.

El K.O. de la noche llegó de la mano de Sergio Pettis (25-7), ex campeón de Bellator. El hermano del mítico Anthony Pettis estaba perdiendo con claridad ante Magomed Magomedov (21-5), pero al borde del final del segundo asalto conectó un brutal codazo giratorio que acabó con el combate de manera inmediata. La cara de Khabib Nurmagomedov, entrenador del ruso, era un poema. De esta manera, Pettis vuelve a entrar en la conversación para pelear por el cinturón de peso gallo de PFL.

Otras actuación destacada fue la de Archie Colgan (13-0), que mantuvo el invicto al imponerse por decisión unánime a Jay Jay Wilson (11-2) después de dominarle tanto en el striking como sobre todo en el terreno del grappling. La cruz la puso Caolán Loughran (10-3), que tras ser despedido por la UFC hace unos meses debutó con derrota en PFL ante Jack Cartwright (13-2) después de protagonizar una actuación que dejó mucho que desear.
