Woltemade erobert Newcastle im Sturm!
Nick Woltemade (23) hat seine ersten Wochen in Newcastle genutzt, um die Kritik an seiner Ablöse verstummen zu lassen. Der Stürmer traf beim 4:0-Sieg in der Champions League bei Union Saint-Gilloise nicht nur mit einem frechen Hacken-Tor, sondern zeigte einmal mehr, warum die „Magpies“ bis zu 90 Millionen Euro an den VfB Stuttgart überweisen.
Trainer Eddie Howe (47) geriet nach der Partie ins Schwärmen – und verriet eine Szene, die ihm besonders gefiel: „Ich liebe es! Die besten Stürmer, mit denen ich gearbeitet habe, wollen immer Tore schießen. Auch wenn es eine klare Regel gibt, sie wollen diese Verantwortung. Damit habe ich überhaupt kein Problem.“
Gemeint war Woltemades Drang, die beiden Strafstöße für die Magpies selbst auszuführen, die letztlich Anthony Gordon (24) verwandelte. Der Newcastle-Trainer betonte zugleich Gordons Fleiß: „Er hat enorm hart an seiner Routine gearbeitet. Man sieht, wie fokussiert er ist.“
[–>Für den DFB-Stürmer war es bereits der dritte Treffer in sechs Pflichtspielen für Newcastle – eine starke Antwort auf Zweifel aus der Heimat. Bayerns Aufsichtsrat-Mitglied Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (70) hatte den Klub zuvor für die hohe Ablösesumme belächelt: „Ich kann Stuttgart nur gratulieren, dass sie einen – in Anführungszeichen – Idioten gefunden haben, der so viel Geld bezahlt hat.“
Howe konterte gelassen: „Solche Aussagen sind irrelevant. Der Markt bestimmt die Preise. Wir sind einfach froh, Nick bei uns zu haben.“ Der Coach lobte seinen Neuzugang für dessen mannschaftsdienliches Spiel: „Oft ist er der Passgeber vor dem Pass. Unsere Flügelspieler profitieren enorm von ihm.“

Woltemade, war in Stuttgart einst nicht mal für den Champions-League-Kader gemeldet, spielt nun auf der ganz großen Bühne. Drei Tage nach seinem Premier-League-Tor gegen Arsenal folgte das Erste in der Königsklasse. Newcastle steht nach der Auftaktniederlage gegen Barcelona wieder im Rennen – am 21. Oktober wartet das Duell mit Benfica Lissabon.
Egal, ob Hacke oder Kopf: Der schlaksige Stürmer zeigt, dass er mehr ist als nur ein „teurer Einkauf“. In England wird er längst als einer gefeiert, der gekommen ist, um Verantwortung zu übernehmen – und Tore.
