Travis Kelce faced a surprising snub from Hollywood just as Taylor Swift worked to secure a triumphant week for them both, as he found himself excluded from a major new entertainment honor.
Despite the pop icon’s continued public support and the release of her new album, Kelce and his brother Jason will not appear in the Golden Globes’ first-ever recognition of podcasts, with New Heights omitted.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s chart-topping show is not in the list of contenders as per an announcement on Friday, October 3 – the same day Swift launched her highly anticipated album The Life of a Showgirl.
The Golden Globes unveiled a shortlist of 25 eligible podcasts for the new award category, but the Kelce brothers’ hit program, often celebrated for its humor and authenticity, was notably missing.
Instead, the roster leaned heavily toward political commentary and established Hollywood personalities as, according to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the eligible shows were selected in collaboration with Luminate, an analytics firm owned by Penske Media.
Penske also oversees major entertainment publications such as Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline and the company’s influence over both the media and the awards landscape underscores the competitive, often politicized nature of Hollywood.
While New Heights failed to make the cut, several outspoken conservative voices did such as Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, Megyn Kelly, Ben Shapiro, Theo Von, and Candace Owens were all among those named.
Owens’ inclusion, in particular, drew attention given her polarizing reputation within and beyond the conservative media sphere.
Owens, who boasts more than three million followers on YouTube, has been accused by critics of spreading conspiracy theories and antisemitic rhetoric, being considered even too extreme for the likes of Charlie Kirk, according to The Post.
The rest of the list features a blend of mainstream and progressive voices such as Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett, who were recognized for their SmartLess show.
While Amy Poehler, Dax Shepard, Alex Cooper of Call Her Daddy, motivational speaker Mel Robbins, and the politically charged Pod Save America also secured spots.
From this pool of 25, the Golden Globes will narrow the contenders down to six official nominees on December 8.
For Kelce, the snub represents an unexpected setback for one of the USA’s most popular shows as New Heights has consistently ranked among the most streamed podcasts in the nation.
Praised for its engaging blend of sports insight and brotherly banter, even with its immense popularity, the show’s absence from the shortlist suggests that traditional Hollywood institutions may not yet embrace its charming appeal.
Taylor Swift makes sweet wedding gesture to Travis Kelce
Amid the awards controversy, Taylor Swift shifted attention back to her relationship with Kelce while promoting her latest album The Life of a Showgirl, which launched on the same Friday as Travis’ snub.
Speaking to British media outlets on release day, the 35-year-old singer offered rare details about their upcoming wedding and the deep personal inspiration behind her new music, with her finacee as a source of inspiration.
Swift confirmed that the couple plans a “destination wedding,” with close friend Ed Sheeran expected to perform during the ceremony.
She described Kelce as “the most fun person alive” and explained that their partnership heavily influenced the album’s romantic and celebratory tone, which has already been received well by critics.
She also disclosed that her engagement ring was designed by Kelce himself, working with a jeweler she had mentioned years earlier-an intimate gesture that reflects the athlete’s attention to her personal history.
One track, “Opalite,” stands out as Kelce‘s favorite. Swift said the song “symbolizes their connection through a metaphor about gemstones and the happiness created,” describing it as a reflection of their shared life rather than her past relationships.
“I never really thought about what I wanted until I met the right person,” Swift said, summarizing the shift that her relationship has brought to both her music and outlook.
