Pane trenére, jak byste zhodnotil přípravu?
Bylo to extrémně složité. Začali jsme se třemi Češkami, pak se postupně přidávaly mladé reprezentantky a cizinky, ale celou dobu nás nebylo ani deset, abychom mohli hrát pět na pět a pořádně dělat nějaké herní věci, takže v tomhle ohledu to bylo opravdu náročné, jak připravit program a podobně.
Stále ale máte absence. Kdy můžeme očekávat kompletní tým USK v plné síle?
Úplně kompletní budeme asi až po Novém roce, kdy se k nám připojí Brionna Jonesová, která měla opravdu náročné léto, takže jsme se domluvili na nějaké dovolené a přidá se k nám v lednu. A pak už doufám, že dojedeme sezonu beze změn ve stejném složení.
Po loňské sezoně tým opustila řada klíčových hráček. Povedlo se vám je nahradit?
Ano, myslím, že jsme to složili tak, že nebudeme cítit žádné oslabení. Přišly nám zkušené hráčky pod koš, chceme dát prostor i mladým českým reprezentantkám.
Premiéru na střídačce v roli hlavního kouče už máte za sebou. V tuzemské lize si USK připsalo dvě jasné výhry a povedlo se vám ovládnout i Supercup. Dodalo vám to klid do práce?
Rozhodně ano. Musím říct, že jsem byl před tím zápasem extrémně nervózní, měl jsem z toho respekt. Tu trofej jsme všichni moc chtěli, protože jednak je to sebevědomí do další práce, ale povedlo se nám i projevit dobrý výkon.
Svými výkony na sebe (nejen v Supercupu) upozornila nová posila na rozehrávce Francouzka Pauline Astierová. Vidíte ji jako novou tahounku USK?
Uvidíme, jak bude pokračovat, je opravdu ještě hodně mladá. Ale zapadla do týmu neuvěřitelným způsobem a její výkony, to je prostě top level.

Jaká je osobnostně?
Pauline je hodně pracovitá. Na tréninku zatím neměla moc soupeřku na stejném postu, ale pak přišla Kaytlin (Chenová) a tím pádem je na ni vyvíjen trochu větší tlak. Ale Pauline je extrémně chytrá hráčka, která si dokáže se spoustou věcí poradit.
Kromě cizinek se kádr rozrostl i početnou základnu českých hráček. Zatím to vypadá, že pro ně dokážete najít více prostoru něž vaše předchůdkyně.
Mám nějakou představu, svůj styl chci stavět na větší rotaci. Rád bych také vytvořil větší spolupráci s naší mládeží, abychom dali impuls i těm dalším klubům a mladým hráčkám. Chci, aby viděly, že tady mají možnost rozvoje a USK pro ně není uzavřená kapitola.

Jaké jsou cíle USK pro letošní sezonu?
Pořád stejné. Jednoznačně chceme vyhrát Chance ligu, troufám si říct prostě neprohrát žádný zápas. A v Eurolize chceme hrát Final Six v Zaragoze, myslím, že cokoliv jiného by bylo zklamání.
A na závěr – co pro vás osobně znamená výzva v podobě pozice hlavního kouče na střídačce USK Praha?
Je to pro mě ohromná čest, ale zároveň zodpovědnost dostat takovou příležitost. Jsem pokorný, pracovitý kluk a rozhodně chci navázat na práci, kterou tady nastavila Nata (Natália Hejková).
