Since Taylor Swift released her twelfth album, The Life of a Showgirl, the world has been talking about it. And of course, her fiancé, Travis Kelce, is no exception.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end lived every Swiftie’s dream: listening to her new songs alongside the 14-time Grammy winner. This experience, which gave Travis “a different feel,” was shared with his fans on his podcast “New Heights.”
Taylor Swift finally breaks silence on Super Bowl rumors and her reason involves Travis Kelce
Travis recounts what it was like to listen to The Life of a Showgirl
In a new episode of the podcast he hosts with his older brother and Philadelphia Eagles legend Jason Kelce, Travis shared with his listeners what it was like to listen to Taylor’s twelve songs with her: “Does that feel weird when an artist is in the same room with you and you’re listening to the lyrics?” asked his older brother.
“It’s a different feel, for sure, but I got used to it real quick,” admitted the 36-year-old TE. “I just listen to it wholeheartedly, because it’s her creation, you just want to appreciate it for what it is, you know? And I think that’s the biggest thing is to make sure that the person you’re in the room with knows you’re open to what they’re creating.”
Meanwhile, not only did fans deduce that several of these songs are inspired by their relationship and love for each other, but Taylor herself has confirmed it. “Wi$h Li$t,” “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Honey,” and “Opalite” (Travis’ favorite song) are some of them. When the conversation with Jason turned to how it made him feel, TE was moved:
“It was fun to hear all these come together, knowing that a few of them – as she’s mentioned – have been about our life together,” he continued. “It’s just been fun to see everybody depict them and all the videos online and people dancing and smiling and having a blast with this.”
One of the songs that had the biggest impact was “Wood” because of the hints and nods Taylor wrote in reference to her fiancé. And of course, his older brother asked him about it: “Do you feel cocky about the song ‘Wood’?” Jason asked.
“No,” Travis responded. “Any song that she references me in is very… I love that girl, what do you mean?” he asked, but Jason quickly interrupted him: “That’s not just any song. This is a very specific you,”
“What? I think you’re not understanding the song,” added the youngest Kelce. “Travis, come on. ‘Redwood tree ain’t hard to see’… I thought redwood, that’s a little bit, that’s a generous word, I think. I think if somebody wrote a song about me, it’d be like, ‘Japanese maple sometimes can see,’” Jason joked, making everyone laugh.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” has officially broken Adele’s “25” record for the biggest debut in U.S. history, selling over 3.5 million units so far.
