Um gol brasileiro pode levar os Emirados Árabes Unidos de volta à Copa do Mundo após 35 anos. O atacante Caio Lucas, naturalizado emiradense, marcou na vitória de virada por 2 a 1 sobre Omã, pelas Eliminatórias Asiáticas. O gol neste sábado (11) foi primeiro gol dele pela seleção.
Com o resultado, os Emirados assumiram a liderança do Grupo A e precisam apenas de um empate na próxima rodada para garantir a classificação direta para o Mundial de 2026, que será disputado em Estados Unidos, México e Canadá.
“Feliz demais. Estamos muito perto de realizar um sonho que é de todo o povo dos Emirados. Pude marcar meu primeiro gol com a seleção num momento decisivo. Agora é manter os pés no chão e trabalhar para concluir esse objetivo tão grande na terça-feira”, disse Caio ao ge.
Brasileiros decidem vitória e fazem história
O confronto foi disputado no estádio Jassim Bin Hamad, em Doha, no Catar. Omã abriu o placar logo aos 12 minutos, após um gol contra do zagueiro Autonne. Mas a reação dos Emirados veio rapidamente — e pelas chuteiras de dois brasileiros.
Marcos Meloni empatou aos 31 minutos, e Caio Lucas virou o placar sete minutos depois, consolidando a vitória e a liderança do grupo.
O atacante, de 31 anos, começou sua carreira no América-SP e deixou o Brasil em 2011 rumo ao Chiba Kokusai, do Japão. Desde então, acumula 14 anos atuando no exterior, sendo sete deles nos Emirados Árabes, com passagens por Al-Ain e Sharjah FC, seu atual clube.
De promessa paulista a herói nacional
Natural de São Paulo, Caio Lucas se tornou um dos símbolos da ligação entre o futebol brasileiro e o árabe. Ele estreou pela seleção dos Emirados há poucos meses, e o gol contra Omã foi o primeiro com a camisa do país que o acolheu em 2016.
“Eu fui recebido muito bem desde que cheguei. Minha família é adaptada, a gente ama esse país. Vestir essa camisa é uma honra, um chamado mesmo. Espero que meu propósito aqui seja disputar a Copa do Mundo”, afirmou o atacante.
A trajetória de Caio, marcada por longevidade e sucesso na Ásia, o transformou em uma referência técnica e emocional dentro da equipe.
Vaga histórica após 35 anos de espera
A última participação dos Emirados Árabes Unidos em uma Copa do Mundo foi em 1990, sob o comando de Carlos Alberto Parreira. Desde então, o país buscou retomar o protagonismo no continente, mas esbarrou em campanhas irregulares nas eliminatórias.
Agora, com o time liderado por Caio Lucas e outros naturalizados, os Emirados estão a apenas um ponto da classificação direta. O grupo é formado também por Catar e Omã. O líder avança ao Mundial, enquanto o segundo colocado vai para a repescagem.
A vitória levou os Emirados a três pontos, dois a mais que os rivais. Com isso, um simples empate no confronto direto contra o Catar, na próxima terça-feira (14), às 14h15 (de Brasília), no mesmo estádio em Doha, será suficiente para carimbar o passaporte para o Mundial.
Expectativa e clima de decisão
A proximidade da classificação histórica tem mobilizado o país. A Federação Emiradense de Futebol prepara uma grande festa em caso de conquista da vaga, com transmissão nacional e recepção oficial ao elenco.
Caio Lucas, por sua vez, tenta manter a serenidade: “Sabemos da responsabilidade. É o jogo mais importante da nossa geração. Vamos entrar para vencer e fazer história.”
Os Emirados Árabes podem se tornar a terceira seleção asiática a garantir vaga no Mundial de 2026. Para Caio, seria também o desfecho perfeito de uma carreira construída longe do Brasil — mas marcada agora por um feito que pode entrar para a história do futebol asiático.
