Though he appears to have avoided major injury, New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson is still expected to miss “a couple of weeks” with a knee injury, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Wilson hyperextended his knee and will now be sidelined for the near future after the team’s 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos in London on Sunday. An MRI on Monday confirmed the injury, which reportedly happened on the team’s second-to-last offensive play in the loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Wilson landed awkwardly after an incomplete pass, and then missed the last play of the game.

A specific timeline for his return isn’t known. The Jets are set to take on the Carolina Panthers next on Sunday, and then they’ll travel to the Cincinnati Bengals the following week before their bye. According to Cimini, there is “some thought” that Wilson could be ready to return after that bye week for the team’s matchup with the Cleveland Browns on Nov. 9, which would mean he misses only two games.
Wilson had three catches for 13 yards in the loss on Sunday, which dropped the Jets to 0-6. It was a rough offensive showing for the team as a whole. Quarterback Justin Fields went 9-of-17 for 45 yards, and the team actually finished with negative 10 passing yards in the contest, a franchise worst. They managed just 82 total offensive yards, and Fields was sacked nine times.

Wilson, in his fourth season with the team, has 395 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 36 catches this season. The 25-year-old signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the team this past summer.
The Jets, who are the lone team in the league without a win, have more to fix than just their offense to right the ship. But losing their top wide receiver for any stretch of time, even if it’s just two games, is going to make things even more difficult for Fields.
