Minnie Hauk will break from stall one as she bids to provide Aidan O’Brien with a third win in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. With Ryan Moore still on the sidelines, Christophe Soumillon continues in his role as super sub and he will need to repeat his winning ride aboard Zarkava in 2008, who also came out of stall one. O'Brien's other runner, last year's third Los Angeles, did not fair so well and will have to defy stall 14 to claim victory, with a low draw preferred by many.Aventure, who is challenging Minnie Hauk for favouritism, was handed stall 12 of 18 runners.Hopes of a first ever Japanese-trained winner were dealt a blow, with Japanese Derby winner Croix Du Nord and the Prix Foy victor Byzantine Dream handed stalls 17 and 15 respectively. ‘It has to be done right’ – Russell provides update on Mercedes contract talks

George Russell says a new Mercedes contract must be "done right" but does not expect negotiations to run into the post-season.Russell is the most high-profile F1 driver without a confirmed seat for 2026 and speculation about his future has gone on throughout the summer after Max Verstappen confirmed in July he would not be joining Mercedes, despite talks between his camp and Toto Wolff. Wolff stated at the end of August that a new contract for Russell was "a formality" and Sky Sports News understands talks between the parties have been advancing towards a multi-year deal which would see him stay at the team until at least the end of 2027."I think for for any driver, when you get to a certain point in your career, things have be done right," said Russell ahead of this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix."Every […]

Paul Merson says Oliver Glasner would not be able turn down Man Utd if they came calling, but warned the Crystal Palace boss is not the right fit for Old Trafford.Ruben Amorim is once again under pressure at Man Utd after defeat to Brentford at the weekend, but Sky Sports News understands the Portuguese boss retains the backing of United's minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is desperate to give his first managerial appointment a full season to prove himself. That has not stopped the speculation and Palace boss Glasner is one of the bookies' favourite to be the next boss at Old Trafford if the job becomes available.Glasner led the Eagles to FA Cup glory last season and followed that by lifting the Community Shield at the start of this campaign. Davies on Birmingham’s trip to Wrexham: ‘I detach myself from the hype’

It has been a solid, if unspectacular, return to the Championship for Birmingham City.Under normal circumstances, any promoted team that found themselves comfortably in mid-table after eight games of a new season would be delighted. But Chris Davies knows it is his job to balance realism with expectation."We have competed really well," the Blues boss tells Sky Sports. "The first step was to prove we could earn points because we are not entitled to anything. We are a promoted team from League One. The last time the club was in the Championship it finished 22nd and I think it had lost more games in five years than any other team in England. Friday 3rd October 7:30pm Kick off 8:00pm "It is a tough league full of ambitious, well-resourced clubs. But we have shown we can compete, pick up wins, score […]

Can Wrexham balance optimism with reality in Championship?

Each of the last three seasons have culminated in wild celebrations in the once forgotten city of Wrexham. All-expenses-paid trips to Las Vegas followed the end of the previous two.But the club's meteoric rise has had to be tempered with a dose of realism now they ply their trade in the second tier of English football. The Championship is notoriously unforgiving and Wrexham are finding out the hard way. For now, their charge through the leagues is on hold. The club, owned by wealthy American actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, flexed their financial muscles over the summer. They were among the biggest spenders outside the Premier League and it seems to be taking manager Phil Parkinson a little while to work out his best formula.Record signing Nathan Broadhead helped Parkinson's side come from behind to snatch a valiant draw […]
